I love the thread title use of the word "oeuvre" with even that particular font character 'œ'! I'm trying to imagine early Dylan using it in a song.....'oooooooooovvvvvreh!' fitted in to the clanging strings of "Like a Rolling Stone!"

His lyrics are amazing. I think his Nobel prize was earned, deserved, and a grand and glorious thing. But is this a sell-out, literally or figuratively?

David Crosby (CSNY) sold his catalogue too. His reasons (I'm paraphrasing): he can't work, he has a mortgage and family, and needs money.
Dylan probably has enough money, but who knows?

I don't know, but maybe he had a choice of buyers, and sold to the people he trusted to own it, rather than leave it to chance after he was gone.

When I heard it made me feel old again. Whether you like(d) him or not he was part of my youth. Gave up when he went electric, well known story.
Comment on trusting owners may be spot on. Guess he may be feeling old too.

I agree Punk. "The Freewheeling Bob Dylan" and "Times They Are A Changing" are both great albums but then when he went electric he gave us three of the greatest rock albums of all time. I watched "No Direction Home" again last week and couldn't get over how silly and pathetic the booers were. "We didn't pay to come and see a beat group" they whinged. A whole year after "Bringing It All Back Home" and 6 months after the release of "Highway 61 Revisited" they must have been well aware they going to see a band. If they just wanted "Blowin In The Wind" written over and over then they should have just done it themselves and not disrespect the musicians like that ??

When I saw him at Newcastle on that tour in 1966 some of the audience were walking out as soon as the curtain for the second half went up. Clearly they were not prepared to give his new direction a chance. I would have loved to have been able to view their record collections five or ten years later.

I remember spending the punk rock years annoyed that 'normal dull' students
were playing Dylan's "Desire" LP at every party,
and ham-fistedly strumming guitars for singalongs of his early 60s 'folkie' songs..

It wasn't until the 1980s when a flatmate played a bootleg tape of Dylan's judas concert,
that I relented my hostility and started liking him...
