He kept his house in the Milwaukee area after Ted Turner moved the Braves to Atlanta. Milwaukee hated Turner, but they still love Hank Aaron. May he rest in peace. |

(1934-2021) From: gillymor Living in between 2 American League cities, Washington and Baltimore, before inter-league play commenced, I only got to see him play one time, the 1969 All-Star game, nevertheless he was a hero to all of us kids, a line drive hitter with a blacksmith's forearms and a Gold Glove outfielder, he was a rare bird, what's known in the big leagues as a 5 tool player. My favorite baseball analyst, Tim Kurkjian, remembered him on First Take yesterday. ESPN |

(1934-2021) From: keberoxu Hank Aaron's biographer found Mr. Aaron to be a very hard sell about authorizing the writing of a biography -- he had been through too much, some of it from the press, not to have got burned and become extremely wary. As the journalist persisted, and the two became friends, over time, the negativity passed but the modesty and decency stayed the same. The biographer worked out a contract and made an offer, and when receiving the offer, Hank Aaron asked politely: "How many pages will it be?" (from an ESPN article) |

(1934-2021) From: keberoxu I remember Barry Bonds as well, and sadly, somewhere in my own mind I have got Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds all tangled up together, recalling one of them as straight-as-a-die honest and the other one as a substance-enhanced competitor. I regret that. Hank Aaron is surely memorable WITHOUT Barry Bonds. |
