Buckwheat Zydeco recorded THEY ALL ASKED FOR YOU on their children's album "Choo Choo Boogaloo" (1994). Their recording is also on the various-artists collection "A Child's Celebration of Silliest Songs" (1999).

The Meters also recorded THEY ALL ASK'D FOR YOU. It's on several of their albums "Fire on the Bayou" (1975), "Funkify Your Life" (1995), and "The Very Best of the Meters" (1997). It's also on the various-artists collections "Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Vol. 2" (1995) "Mardi Gras Party" (1999) "New Orleans Playground" (Putumayo, 2006). Authorship is credited to The Meters.

Allmusic.com doesn't seem to be working properly right now; otherwise, I might be able to find more recordings.

Note that I have revived a very old thread.

From the recording at YouTube:

THEY ALL ASK'D FOR YOU
As sung by The Meters.

Hé, là-bas!
Crawfish étouffée!
They all asked for you.

I went on down to the Audubon Zoo, and they all asked for you.
They all asked for you. (For who?)
Well, they even inquired about you.
I went on down to the Audubon Zoo, and they all asked for you.
The monkeys asked, the tigers asked, and the elephant asked me too.

Aw, do it!
Hé, là-bas! (Hé, là-bas! Hé, là-bas!)
Red beans and rice!
Creole gumbo!

I went on up to the big ol' sky, and they all asked for you. (For who?)
They all asked for you.
Well, they even inquired about you.
I been on up to the big ol' sky, and they all asked for you.
The ducks asked, the eagles asked, and the buzzard asked me too.

Do it to it!
Hé, là-bas! (Hé, là-bas!)
Let the bons-temps rouler!
Hé, là-bas!
Grits and fish fingers!
There ain't no crawfish fish in the étouffée.
... and tomato paste.
Do it!
Put your-all hands together!

I went on down to the deep blue sea, and they all asked for you. (Huh?)
They all asked for you. (Me?)
Well, they even inquired about you.
I went on down to the deep blue sea, and they all asked for you. (Me?)
The shark asked, the whale asked, and the barracuda asked me too.

They all asked for you (in the morning)
They all asked for you (early in the morning)
Everybody there, they want to go where
They all asked for you.

They all asked for you (in the morning)
They all asked for you (early in the evening)
Everybody there, they want to go where
They all asked for you.

["Asked" can be pronounced "axed" or "ast."
I suppose "your-all" is the possessive form of "you-all"?]

Hey, or should I say "Hé!" Nice work on
the lyrics, Jim! Accents, and everything.
You would think that the Audubon Zoo would
have as good a version on their website,
but unfortunately, they don't.

This song is getting renewed national airplay
in the current century, due to the efforts of
Jimmy Buffett. It's in regular rotation now
on Radio Margaritaville, heard on Sirius/xm 24
and streaming for free at radiomargaritaville
dot com.

It's such a great song. I'd never heard it
until a few months ago. I'm going to learn
it on ukulele.

Thanks for reviving a very old thread!

I wonder if the above song is derived from this one:

From the sheet music at The Maine Music Box

DOWN ON THE FARM (THEY ALL ASK FOR YOU)
Words and music by Billy Dale, Charles Parrott, Jimmy Adams & Harry Harrison, ©1923.

1. Reuben, Reuben was a hick,
Went to see the city.
Sally was a farmer's chick;
She was dumb but pretty;
Sighed for Reuben night and day,
Wondered why he stayed away.
In each note
That Sally wrote,
Here's what she would say:

CHORUS: "Down on the farm,
They all feel fine.
Ev'ry day,
While you're away,
They all ask for you.
Sister and maw,
Brother and paw,
Even the mule with his old hee-haw,
Hector the pup,
Since he's grown up,
He keeps asking too.
Oh! The chickens and
The cows and
The horses inquire [too?].
Down on the farm,
They all ask for you.

2. Reuben read what Sally wrote,
But it had him guessing;
Wondered why the billy goat
Didn't send his blessing,
Took his pen and wrote right back:
"How about the old duck's quack?"
Sally said:
"The poor thing's dead,
And alas, alack—

Hi, Jim. Thanks for posting the lyrics and the link. I enjoyed listening to the song and seeing the pix from the zoo. And I love hearing the guy sing, "And they all axed for you." It's just so RIGHT.

I don't think there is any connection between the song about the zoo (etc) and the song about the farm.

By the way, I think the plural of you-all is your-all's.
