Sad to hear of the death of Bernie Davis. We knew him back in the 1970,s as a stalwart of the Liverpool Folk Scene. A brilliant musician who played banjo, guitar, melodeon etc, and was the expert voice on Liverpool shanties. Often seen on TV and heard on Radio.
Sadly missed.

Sorry to hear of the Bernie's death, he was a fine musician and a character. He'd been missing from the local scene since having a severe stroke some time ago.

By the way, Bernie's brother Rod was a member of the Quarrymen skiffle group with a couple of other musicians.

John

Most vivid memory is of him flying a plastic seagull round the Pinehurst Club to the strains of "Rolling Home" And of his long association with John Howson as "Oglet"

I think Bernie's melodeon playing while wearing boxing gloves takes some beating. I remember one time we did a melodeon duet with one melodeon. We played together off and on for 50 years or so. I shall miss him. RIP Bernie.

Sad news from Liverpool. He sounds like a great guy. One of the many friends I never had the chance to meet. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread and send my condolences to all those who know and love him.

RIP

Greatly saddened. I know he wouldn't want a great deal of fuss, but I can't NOT say farewell to such a pivotal part of Liverpool and districts Folk life. Apart from the inflatable seagull, the parrot on shoulder etc. I fondly recall Thursday nights in 'The Dolphin' near Canning Place when he'd sing the Guinness song which extolled the virtues of the drink, detailing the counties of Ireland whilst drinking a pint of the stuff. 'Good old Kerry' got a mention and Sligo was always drawn out as 'Sliiigoooh'at the end of a verse. Terrific musician as Keith details and a dance caller of renown. A gang of us had a grand (and wet) weekend camping, singing and playing up in Keld not that long ago. Grand memories. I don't think they make 'em like Bernie anymore.

Very sad news indeed. Bernie was a great support to us when we set up the Rosses Point (Wild Atlantic Shanty Festival) now running since 2010. He was such a lovely person with immeasurable talent, and how he loved drawing out Sliiiigooo in our home county. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
