We've lost touch, can anyone help me find the lyrics please? |

"Subject: RE: Lyr Req: poor old Rover From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 23 Sep 10 - 06:54 AM I am reminded of a song I once heard on a campsite at Cambridge Folk Festival, with the words: Last year I went to Sunny Spain, With Rover the Spaniel. The Spaniards wouldn't let him on the plane, Not Rover the Spaniel. So he did his doggy paddle cross the main - My spaniel's paws are sore.' |

01 Mar 21 - 09:24 AM (#4095500) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: With Roger My Spaniel From: GUEST Thanks guys - the Mudcat connection strikes again! Through another route I have found a version originally collected I'm told from a member of Pilgrim Morris: This year I'm off to sunny Spain. With Rover, my spaniel. I'm taking the Costa Brava plane. With Rover, my spaniel. But, they won't let Rover on the plane. Not Rover, my spaniel. So, we walked it all the way to Spain. My Spaniel's paws are sore. I think the mention in the third verse of the original song that "every dog must have his lucky day" may have spawned this addition to the folk tradition - Cheers! |
