I got the lyrics from digitrad; but if someone could give me the chords patterned to one verse and the chorus, I would appreciate it.

Now when [G]I was a [C]young man I[G] carried me [Em]pack
And I [G]lived the free [D7]life of the [G]rover.
From the Murry's green basin to the dusty outback,
Well, I waltzed my Matilda all over.
Then in [D7]1915 my [C]country said, [G]"Son,
It's [D7]time you stop rambling, there's [C]work to be [G]done."
So they [G]gave me a [C]tin hat and they [G]gave me a [Em]gun
And they [G]marched me aw-[D7]ay to the [G]war.
And the [G]band played [C]Waltzing Ma-[G]tilda,
As the [G]ship pulled aw-[C]ay from the [D7]quay
And [C]midst all the cheers, flag [G]waving and [Em]tears,
We [G]sailed off for [D7]Gallipo-[G]li

Musicman.....

I much prefer D to those D7's.

There are some easy add-ons that can dress this up a bit.

Try playing [G] [C] [G]
following rover, over, war and Gallipoli lines
-or- [G] [Gsus4] [G]
(if you play your G in the Fielding position, just add a C with index finger on B string while holding the G form).

Also, if you play the D instead of the D7, you can play:
[D] quay [Dsus4] [D]
just by catching the G on the E-string with your pinkie while holding the D form.

You'll sound just like Liam Clancy. Now, how to keep from crying?

Here's a sequence I worked out by ear. It uses more chords and more chord changes than other renditions I've heard, and will probably irritate some people (sorry!). Nevertheless, it sounds good to me, and for those who, like me, don't do any picking to speak of, it helps flesh out the instrumental portion.

C Am G Am C G7 C -
When I was a young man......pack..........rover
repeatC Am G Am C G7 C -
Dm G F C Dm G F C
Then in nineteen-fifteen......son...............done
repeatC Am G Am C G7 C -

Refrain:
C F C - C Am G -
And the band......matilda.............quay
F Dm C Am - Am G7 C
And amid all the tears.............sailed.....Gallipoli

Summary:
C Am G Am C G7 C - (1st, 2nd, & 4th lines of verse)
Dm G F C Dm G F C (3rd line of verse)
C F C - C Am G - (1st half of refrain)
F Dm C Am - Am G7 C (2nd half " " )

(If I goofed up the line breaks, I'll repost)

Well, shoot, I still didn't get the chords to appear over the correct words. Each chord listed goes with an obviously accented syllable. In the first line that's I(C), young(Am), car-(ried)(G), pack(Am), etc. In the summary, a hyphen(-) indicates to repeat the previous chord. Hope this helps.
