While looking for something else on YT, I stumbled upon clip of one of my all-time favourite albums in its entirety. I thought it might interest some 'catters. It is indeed a classic imo.

Danko Fjeld Andersen

The standout track for me is the lovely 'When morning comes to America'.

WHEN MORNING COMES TO AMERICA
(Jonas Fjeld)

My father would shower for work every day
He'd shave by the old radio
We'd listen in bed to that rhythm every day
Wonderin' how one man could sing down so low

Then my cousin brought money from world's far away
With colours and strange soundin' names
And I'd search like a sailor to find where they lay
Promisin' myself I would go there one day

My grandfather gave me an old radio
It played foreign stations from crystals that glowed
And just like a comet ready to appear
I knew I'd shine much brighter in that new atmosphere

When morning comes to America

A mother awakens somewhere in the west
Her child's content from her breast
The husband soon joins her and walks down the stairs
Finding her a ribbon to pull back her hair

When morning comes to America

Stewie,I for one am interested.

I found a copy in an out of the way record shop just by chance, way back.

It's a treasure, but not much talked about it seams.

The important thing is ...we both have it!

Cheers

David

Hi David, it seems that we may be the only ones. I got the album back in the early 90s when it was issued by Ryko. It was remastered and reissued by Ryko in 2001 with a live recording of a their concert performance at the 1991 Molde International Jazz Festival. I also got their only other studio album, 'Ridin' the Blinds'. This includes a beaut rendition by Fjeld of Gerry Hallom's setting of Lawson's 'Outside Track' and a fine duet by Andersen and Norwegian singer, Kirsten Berg, of Richard Thompson's 'Dimming of the Day'. The self-titled album was awarded the 1992 Spellemans Pris which evidently is the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy.
