These day podcast is usually synonymous with download. The BBC seems to use 'podcast' to refer to downloads of radio programs for which it owns the copyright, and do not have to be played though iPlayer or their own website. They are usually (always?) part of a series, like In Our Time, rather than one-off programmes. They are usually available to download for a long time, and can be kept for ever. If you go to the BBC programme page - the one with 'programmes' in the URL (which is accessible from the BBC Sounds page which the OP linked to) then you'll see a Download button. You get an mp3 or similar which you can play on any media player. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000qm0d There are other ways to get BBC podcasts, for example from a podcast app which will automatically download the next one in the series. It depends what computer or mobile device you have. |

My mobile phone has buttons for apps but its is only kept in the car in case of breakdown. I am not attached to a phone as many are. Future generations will probably have something implanted. iplayer used to work but Sounds doesn't so I've given up catching up on missed programmes. Missed it now means simply I've missed it. No problem. |

E.g. this one with 'sounds' in the URL: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b018wy4j And this one with 'programmes' in the URL https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b018wy4j Note that the Programme ID - b018wy4j - is the same. Only the second one has the download button. If it only has 'Listen now' it's not downloadable, e.g. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000v86t There is a link from the first to the second - 'Programme website'. If you click 'Listen now' on the second it will go to the first. All that is my experience. It might be different on your computers and will no doubt change in future. |
