It originally retailed for £75.00. Fascinating book which contains numerous blackletter broadside illustrations. It also comes with 2 CDs. |

Well worth a look. I believe some recordings are also available there. The 5 volume set of Pepys was remaindered along with an Index volume and a Catalogue volume some years ago, which I bought. I suppose they are now redundant. |

I like to have songs these in book form (even though you can find them online) - just much more browsable and user-friendly I find. Some other interesting discounted books on that site in the music category on lots of folk related topics (including by Ruth Crawford Seeger and her daughter Peggy's recent autobiography, some quite niche titles on bagpiping too!) |

The first half dozen chapters look useful but the rest just give a cursory overview of Pepys's different categories of song, obviously with numerous examples but these are online anyway. The whole book is like a companion to the website. The tunes are the first couple of verses of some of the songs, useful if you want to know what some of the tunes sound like, but the dots are all presumably available in Simpson. |
