10 May 21 - 08:11 AM (#4105484) Subject: Roman Bank and Wrekin Shropshire song From: GUEST,davidharley I received a request from Shropshire in the UK for a song including the verse. I know where Roman Bank is - it's the highest part of Wenlock Edge - but does anyone have information on the song? “One morning I awoke Just as the day was breaking I spied the Roman Bank And thought it was the Wrekin” |

Does the person making the request have a rough date for the song s/he seeks, or what style of song it is? |

Those four lines are all the requester has: I think he was actually asked by someone else and passed it on to a Shropshire group. I saw the Wrekin thread when I checked before posting this request, but nothing there pertaining to the song. |

It's just a slightly higher point on a ridge. I think anyone to whom the name meant anything would know that. So I wonder if it is a verse from a piece of comic doggerel. |
