Tha ceòl air mo bhilean 's mo chride ri leum
Lùiginn gu cluinnadh an saoghal mo sgèul
Tha 'm fòrladh air tighinn 's mo chead agam fhèin
'S mi gahbail mo cheum gu Càrlabhagh
Aite mo ghaoil tha mise dol ann

Mur a b'e 'n cuan 's nach urrain dhomh shnàmh
Cha leigeadh mi shubhachas dhomh bhith 'n am thàmh
Gu siubhlainn le cabhaig 's mo chas air a bàrr
Thar monadh is sàl gu Càrlabhagh
Aite mo ghaoil tha mise dol ann

An dùil a bheil fhathast far n' fhog sinn an càrn
Ri taobh nead na starraig na clachan an àird
An dùil fhathast am maide le m'ainm
Mar chuimhneachan orms' an Càrlabhagh
Aite mo ghaoil tha mise dol ann

'S e chanadh tu rium 'A bheil thu 'nad chèill?
Tha àitichean eile nas maisich ' fo'n ghrèin
Ma thug thu do chride dha uile gu lèir
Carson a rèist a dh'fhàg thu e?
Aite mo ghaoil tha mise dol ann

The is music on my lips and my heart rejoices
I wish the entire world could hear my story
I have this leave as I please
As I make my way to Carloway
Place of my heart here will I go

Were it not for the the ocean and that I cannot swim
My joy woud not permit me to be stil
I would be travlling over moorland and sea
Across to Carloway
Place of my heart here will I go

I wonder if the cairn still stands
By the crow's nest up among the rocks
I wonder if the stick is still there bearing my name
A reminder of me in Carloway
Place of my heart here will I go

You will ask - Have you taken leave of your senses?
There are far more attractive places
If you gave it your heart so totally
Why then did you leave it?
Place of my heart here will I go

thanks

some spelling corrections
verse 1
mo chride should be mo chridhe (my heart)
gahbail = gabhail

last verse
"do chridhe" (your heart)

I think "monadh" (moor) should be lenited with the prepositon "thar", but I find examples of both "thar mhonadh" ("mh" pronounced like an English "v") and "thar monadh". Perhaps it depends on the speaker and the geographical location (dialect). Thar monadh is indeed the spelling on Christine Primrose's album cover.

Christine Primrose herself is originally from Carlabhagh / Carloway, Lewis. I think she is still living in Skye.

Còisir Ghàidhlig Chàrlabhaigh
has produced a useful video with lyrics subtitled.

as sung by Donald MacRae with some different words, but the last line of each verse is the same and so is the next to last verse in both the Primrose and MacRae renditions.

Còisir Ghàidhlig Chàrlabhaigh also sing additional verses not on the Primrose album, so you may wish to view the copy of their video that has a translation (but not the Gaelic) in the subtitles

Rob Calum MacLeòid, whose photo is at the end of the video, was the author of the lyrics. I expect he is the same Calum MacLeòid who wrote An Till Mise Chaoidh

an t-eathar aig Calum
am faic mi a clàir
an seòl mi innt' fhathast
ri cladadh mo ghràidh
Ri faram nan cnag agus
tarraing nan ràmh
sgoil-mhrara na h-òig
an Càrlabhagh
Àite mo ghaoil
tha mise dol ann

Greas ort is dean cabhaig
a charbaid na smùid
tha 'm fòrladh seo agam
's mionaid gun phrìs
Bidh sòlas gam ruighinn
nuair theannas mi dlùth
tha mo rùin-s'
an Càrlabhagh
Àite mo ghaoil
tha mise dol ann
