I don't think anyone else here has shared this sad news. Here's Ellen McIlwaine's obituary from today's New York Times:

How sad! condolences to family, friends and fans.

She used her voice to mimic the guitar, an incredible technical
feat, and did superb slide guitar.

Certainly deserved to have been better known.

Her FIRST album:

World in Sound(G) WIS1031             LP, CD 2000
FEAR ITSELF
Chris Zaloom, Lead Guitar
Bill McCord, Drums
Steve Cook, Bass
Paul Album, Bass
Eddy Kramer, Piano
Ellen McIlwaine, Rhythm & Slide guitar, Organ & Harmonica

1. Crawling Kingsnake
2. Underground River
3. Bow'd Up
4. For Suki
5. In My Time of Dying
6. The Letter
7. Lazarus
8. Mossy Dream
9. Billy Gene
10. Born Under a Bad Sign

a bunch of albums for POLYDOR, STONEY PLAIN, United Artists
and other labels.

Last album, to my knowledge:

I think there were some privately issued videos - anyone
have listings ???? Thanks.

Thomas.

She was a powerhouse. RIP.

According to Discogs, there was also a Canadian release of "Mystic Bridge" in 2006. I don't know how it compares with the 2007 CD. Possibly the 2007 was the 2006 remastered??

While I note McIlwaine's remark about opening for guitarists,
I remember very well for whom McIlwaine was opening,
the one time I saw her perform the opening set:

Lily Tomlin doing a one-woman show.

And yes,
McIlwaine tore the roof off the place.

It would be nice to think of her
getting a rousing welcome on the other side
from those who were important to her
and whom she lost, like Hendrix.
