BS: COVID mentality strikes again (hoarding)

I recently graized an elbow and even giving it plenty of surgical spirits and air there is an infection that won't subside. All very minor but after a week, maybe it is a sign, at my age, infections won't go away as quickly. I asked at the local chemist (pharmacy) for anti-bacterial plasters**. Nothing! Tried searching online and even Boots (most ubiquitous chain) don't stock. I did find a shop chain that will sell, but not stock - delivery to their shop 5 miles away, next day. We will see tomorrow!

So - COVID mentality kicks-in. How many do I need? Better Buy 3 boxes. (Well you never know - there may be a panic on them any time soon)

** They are impregnated with a silver compound, renowned for its anti-bac.

I got job lots of stuff like that free on prescription when I had blistering cellulitis last year. Dunno whether the surgical spirit was such a great idea... Maybe just a soapy clean-up then let the blood system do its thing...? I grazed my shin getting into my car (!) over a month ago, scraping the top of the skin off, nothing deep, less than a inch across, and it still hasn't healed completely. I tend to leave cuts and grazes open unless Mrs Steve whinges about my gore getting on the bedsheets...

Ex-medic (military) here, and veteran of less-than-adequate wound care ...

Don't clean a wound with surgical spirit; you do more harm than good. Likewise stay away from iodine. Steve is right; soap and water is best and safest. If you like, soak the wound in a basin of warm saline, or apply hot compresses made with normal saline.

Then put a dab of antibiotic ointment on a sterile bandage, and apply the bandage to the wound.

Sorry for your trouble.

For the last year I've been looking for the Ball canning jar lids, and had no luck. I was down to one partial box. In any given year I can (process) jelly, tomatoes, pickles, relish, and okra. I can go through four or five boxes in a month. So when I visited my local grocery store a couple of weeks ago and they had 8 boxes, I bought all of them.

Hoarding, or waiting your turn to pick up the supply you need plus a couple extra (because it is a very good year for tomatoes this year)?

Not in Rouge Towers, I didn't touch a drop of cider for 18 months. In fact I poured a gallon (UK gallons) away because I had kept the semi-demijons so long.

I only drink to re-hydrate & without dancing I don't loose much hydrate.

The wound is only 1 inch across but under the scab it is not healing properly, after a week. I think I will survive.
I like the idea of salt bathes. Ta.

If complications continue try immobilization of the highly flexed elbow.

I read the heading: COVID mentality strikes again (hoarding), and expected it to be about posters/hoardings/billboards related to mentality and Covid.

I didn't write "(hoarding)" - Mud Elves added it for clarity. Some you win, some you loose!

Covid was a rude reminder that we don't bounce so well as we get older. Make the most of it.

Would hording be a tendency for people to stick together in large groups?

It would be the tendency to buy more than we need to hold onto stuff we don't need (meaning many of us already do this anyway, regardless of COVID-19.)

Yea, fine pretty much. The online pharmacy charged for next day delivery to their shop and it came in a day late, now unused! As it happened I was booked in to the doctors (nurse) for annual blood tests so I asked advice. I had been bathing it in salty water, thanx. She didn't comment. But she did slap an iodine square over it and a padded plaster. Very sticky but not if you are sweating.

The good news is that the next day I was dancing Trad French for 2 hours (boureed treasure :)). On tarmac and the rain held off. But, let's say I was glowing. Amazingly after cooling down, the plaster is sticking well. Apart from festering there was little to worry about. Though the blood tests included diabetes, which was comforting. The symptom on its own is not really a concern, but you don't ignore signs. They only tell you if there is something to tell. But I am back to the nurse after 5 days to see progress.

Knees are the next minor problemo. I hadn't danced for 18 months and it shows. Roll on Sidmouth, more tarmac dancing.
