Marc posted this original message in another thread and I thought I'd re-post it for him so he'd be more likely to get an answer.

You might want to try Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop. You can order audio and video lessons as well as books on blues and other forms of fingerstyle guitar playing.

Stefan Grossman has certainly been a prolific producer of books on the guitar styles of the classic bluesmen.

E.g., Delta Blues Guitar, Oak, Lib Congress 68-23509
Ragtime Blues Guitarists, Oak, 76-113474

Oak also produced a lot of books by other people, such as:
The Art of Folk-Blues Guitar, Jerry Silverman, 64-18168
Finger Picking Styles for Guitar, Happy Traum, 66-19052
Masters of the Instrumental Blues Guitar, Donald Garwood, 67-14542
Brownie McGhee Blues Guitar, Brownie McGhee/Happy Traum, 77-136356, etc

I think the most important thing is to get recordings of the music you are interested in, because you can't learn the feel from a page of tab.

There are probably lots of books around if you look in the big music stores, although folk/blues is not as popular as it was in the 60's and 70's.

Regards
Chris

I'm too lazy to run upstairs and look, but I have a John Lee Hooker guitar book. Has TAB and music.

If you want to do Robert Johnson, Scott Ainsle has an excellent book covering much of Johnson's work.

If you want to play like John Lee, you should see him, or at least watch a video--the TAB doesn't tell the whole story--

It's a new day and I've checked out the books. Mel Bay Presents John Lee Hooker Vintage Blues Guitar, transcribed and annotated by Lenny Carlson, Mel Bay Publications, Inc., Pacific, MO 63069,1996. Check out melbay.com. At the start the book says, "A recording of the music in this book is now available. The publisher strongly recommends the use of this recording along with the text to insure accuracy of interpretation and ease in learning." Songs include Bundle Up and Go, Church Bell Tone, Democrat Man, Good Mornin' Little School Girl, How Can You Do It?, How Long Blues, I'm Wanderin', I Need Some Money, It's You I Love Baby, No more Doggin', Pea Vine Special, Wobblin' Baby, You Don't Move Me, and You're So Nice and Kind to Me Lou Della.

Robert Johnson at the Crossroads: The authoratative Guitar Transcriptions, transcribed by Scott Ainslie and Dale Whitehill. Contains every Robert Johnson song (recorded of course).

Enjoy the music!

Here are blue clicky things for Stefan Grossman's Guitar workshop site and the site for Homespun tapes. Both offer lessons and transcriptions of blues players, although I am not sure either has Hopkins or Hooker; but they do have Hurt, Johnson(s), Davis, etc.
