Review: Who Killed Davy Moore

In view of the success of Cuban boxers at the Olympic Games, I was reminded of this powerful song, by Dylan, that I first heard sung by Pete Seeger. Especially the lines, "Who came to us from Cuba's shore, Where boxing ain't allowed no more"
Obviously it must be permitted in Cuba now!

That song was done on Seeger's "We Shall Overcome" album recorded live at Carnegie Hall in 1963. Brilliant song. Here's a link to it.

Amateur boxing has always been allowed in Cuba - Bob Dylan was referring to professional boxing being banned in Cuba . The Cuban boxer in the Davy Moore fight was resident in Miami from what I remember.

This is the fight that led to Moore's death.

In answer to the question, pro boxing is no longer banned in Cuba. Davey Moore's death caused Fidel to ban it back in 1962, but Raul has reinstated it. Right or wrong, there it is.

I think it's a vile nasty, so called sport, my friend, but that's a conversation for another thread.

I didn't know that about Fidel Castro banning pro-boxing because of the Davey Moore fight. He must have had a bit of a humanitarian streak in him ..... ok, another conversation for another thread.
