Next Sunday,5th September at 3.00pm, there will be the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at 160 Park Avenue, where Lal Waterson lived 1968-1976. Lal’s family, including Oliver Knight ,Marry Waterson, and Norma Waterson will be there, and if they can get back in time from a gig in Scotland, Eliza and Martin Carthy will also be there. Everyone is welcome. We hope that there will be some singing so bring your chorus voice. The house ,160 Park Avenue, is where Lal wrote some of the songs for “Bright Phoebus” and the incident which prompted Red Wine & Promises occurred at the end of the street near Pearson Park. If you click on the top little picture it will expand and you will see Lal more easily. She is at street level in the middle of the waterson group, between Mike and Norma, with Martin Carthy on the left.

Apparently David Bulmer’s family reckon they own that plaque, so there might be some litigation. Their keen to take it off the wall and hide it under a bed forever.

Would love to be there but have a prior engagement.
Will have a look soon when I am next in Hull.
Pity this thread has been demeaned by the anonymous prat who posted a dig at Dave Bulmer's family.
The man has been dead 8 years and despite his perceived faults did one hell of a lot for traditional music.
Don't suppose the family are avid followers of mudflap but then who could blame them?

Thanks to all Mudcatters who came. Yes Guest ,it was very good, with a good crowd. Martin and Eliza drove from Scotland in time to catch it all. The "speeches" from Marry ,Ollie, Norma, Eliza and George were just right; I liked Norma's story about bashing Lal on the head with a banjo. And the singing of " Some Old Salty" led by the family was tremendous with a good take up of the chorus by the assembled crowd.

Geoff, can you please set the ball rolling by finding out the contacts and procedures for getting a plaque displayed. I'm thinking Lowgate outside Blue Bell entrance.

Thanks to Peter - sorry we could not be there.
With you all the way Steve - PS nearly caught up with you at Whitby but by the time I had finished sorting whatever I was doing you had disappeared!
Did meet up with Eileen and the gang though.

Yes Steve, I'm starting to look in to it. I discovered this about Blue Plaques
"Outside London, many local councils, civic societies and other organisations run similar plaque schemes. English Heritage piloted a national project between 2000 and 2005, but found that much of the ground had already been covered, so we decided to retain the London-only focus."https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/blue-plaques/about-blue-plaques/

So we have to look locally to get a plaque put up at the Blue Bell.
