A 2017 article in the Guardian (UK)described him as the Iranian Bob Dylan as did a 2007 article in the New York Times https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2017/jan/27/mohsen-namjoo-iranian-bob-dylan-interview I've looked up translations of Mohsen Namjoo's lyrics. Most of what I've seen are love songs, often expressing loneliness; and they are not very straightfoward (if the translations are good, which I have no way of knowing). Some of Namjoo's music is just voice and self-accompaniment on setar, and some has more complex arrangements. Samples of both here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2vmb0lbohQ |

Maybe that wasn't representative but he came across as over-aggressive and rocked-up, like an Iranian version of Vladimir Vyssotsky. Maybe I just caught him at a bad moment. |
