02 Oct 21 - 08:12 PM (#4121700) Subject: 2021 Virtual Getaway online - Oct 8-11 From: Joe Offer The FSGW Getaway will be online again this year via Zoom from Friday, October 8 through Monday, October 11. Enjoy four days of singing circles, concerts, instructional workshops, and presentations. Admission to the Getaway will be free again this year! A donation of $25 (or any amount) is suggested, but not required. Donations will support the FSGW Getaway scholarship fund and FSGW's programming. Donate to Getaway Registration provides the Zoom link which will allow you to attend all the sessions. The Zoom link will be sent via email shortly before the start of the Getaway. Registration will also allow you to register for the sign-up events. Zoom has evolved a lot since we did this last year, and our tech skills have gotten better! Details are on the Getaway page. |

Since the Getaway has been the traditional annual gathering for Mudcatters since 1999, I think we shouldn't have the Mudcat Worldwide Singaround on Monday, October 11. Thoughts? See you at the Getaway. -Joe- |
04 Oct 21 - 01:52 PM (#4121814) Subject: RE: 2021 Virtual FSGW Getaway online - Oct 8-11 From: voyager jo - I don't see 'Open Mike' or 'Talent Show' on the agenda. Please advise. voyager 'a long time FSGW performer' |
04 Oct 21 - 05:31 PM (#4121846) Subject: RE: 2021 Virtual FSGW Getaway online - Oct 8-11 From: Charlie Baum Voyager-- There are concerts on Saturday and Sunday nights you can sign up for--is that the equivalent of an open mike? Many of the rest of the items on the schedule (shown in blue) are thematic sing-arounds. And we'll keep the space open at night for singing. You could do the main room, or even have a group gather in the Peace Lodge Break-out Room, just like at the real place! --Charlie Baum |

11 Oct 21 - 07:15 PM (#4122653) Subject: RE: 2021 Virtual FSGW Getaway online - Oct 8-11 From: MBSGeorge 2021 Getaway Sorry for the abrupt ending--I didn't hit the button to end it, but the machine or the Zoom decided otherwise. I was being tech on one of my computers, and the other computer, which was the host, decided to terminate the meeting without informing anybody--even me. I was about to end it with a very short song with just two words--in Georgian--because they were suitable ambiguous--mraval zhamier. They are as untranslatable as mazal tov or uff da! Literally, they mean "many years," but they can be sung as a thank you or congratulations. Thank you and congratulations to everybody--the planners, the tech crew, and everybody who came and offered a song or two or even just an ear to listen--we couldn't have done the Getaway without you. But the song can also be sung as a hope for many years in the future--may we all be able to gather like this (whether in person or virtually) for many years to come. The song has hundreds of settings, and they are all in harmony--which would make it difficult to sing on Zoom. (I picked a version that doesn't sound too bad as a solo.) Thank you to one and all who made the Getaway 2021 such a wonderful event. And here's to next year! Very tentative date--Sept. 30-Oct. 3 if we can go live/hybrid, but not set in pencil--more like written on the dew on the windowpane. --Charlie Baum and the Getaway committee |
11 Oct 21 - 07:18 PM (#4122654) Subject: RE: 2021 Virtual FSGW Getaway online - Oct 8-11 From: Felipa George, the farewell songs session ended the moment the last singer finished, which was 11 minutes before the last of your 3 posts. And yes, Joe, the ending was very abrupt "the meeting has been closed by the host" or similar words to that effect from Zoom. One minute before midnight in BST, 18.59 EST, 15.39 Pacific |

At least there are now several online singing sessions every week. |
