07 Oct 21 - 05:22 PM (#4122198) Subject: Vintage 1941 From: Felipa some immensely influential singers were born in 1041, turning 80 years old this week: Joan Baez 9 January 1941 Martin Carthy 21 May 1941 Bob Dylan 24 May 1941 Paul Simon 13 October 1941 (& Art Garfunkel 5 Nov 1941) As I was aware of these singers' birthdays, I looked up a list of prominent singers/musicians born in 1941. I think we could find as many singers of this caliber born in other years, whereas the shared date for Baez, Carty and Dylan is exceptional. Bur here are some singers/folk musicians who share/d the birth-year 1941 JAN Richie Havens Neil Diamond FEB Buffy St Marie APR Dave Swarbrick JUNE Roy Harper NOV Guy Clark Jesse Colin Young DEC Tim Hardin Not all important folksingers are well enough known in the popular sphere to make it on to a list like the one I gleaned the above names from. Who would you add? I myself would put Albert Fry on the list. I don't know his birthdate, but when he died in May this year, Albert was described as age 80. Albert was more important as an Irish language activist/teacher than as a singer - but he was ainger who performed and recorded, and more importantly collected and disseminated the songs of the Rann na Feirste district of County Donegal, Ireland. |
