Howdy folks. I'd like to introduce my older brother Rob-O to all you mudcatters. He is not only my brother, but my best friend and confidante, although we live half a country apart. I know he will be welcomed here.

Jeez Rob-O, how many times do you come to a place where you get that kind of invitation from a sailor in the first 5 minutes?! Welcome.

Well, Rob-O, I see the fellas have been quick to come to the welcoming party (that's just like 'em, ya know). Speaking for the 'better' half of the Mudcat population (haha), I'd like to welcome you here and offer you a seat near the stage and a pint of your favorite brew to get you comfortable. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Dear Rob-O,

The following should initiate you into the wonderful world of Mudcat humor and thread creep (the two are inexplicably intertwined!).

katlaughing, since you insist on the lowercase 'k', I must dedicate the insertion of the following poem to you -- and yes, this is 'music-related', because whilst on my search for this famous poem by Don Marquis, I found a fantastic klesmer music links site! So, dearest kat, with all affection, this one's for you:

the song of mehitabel

this is the song of mehitabel
of mehitabel the alley cat
as i wrote you before boss
mehitabel is a believer
in the pythagorean
theory of the transmigration
of the soul and she claims
that formerly her spirit
was incarnated in the body
of cleopatra
that was a long time ago
and one must not be
surprised if mehitabel
has forgotten some of her
more regal manners

i have had my ups and downs
but wotthehell wotthehell
yesterday sceptres and crowns
fried oysters and velvet gowns
and today i herd with bums
but wotthehell wotthehell
i wake the world from sleep
as i caper and sing and leap
when i sing my wild free tune
wotthehell wotthehell
under the blear eyed moon
i am pelted with cast off shoon
but wotthehell wotthehell

do you think that i would change
my present freedom to range
for a castle or moated grange
wotthehell wotthehell
cage me and i d go frantic
my life is so romantic
capricious and corybantic
and i m toujours gai toujours gai

i know that i am bound
for a journey down the sound
in the midst of a refuse mound
but wotthehell wotthehell
oh i should worry and fret
death and i will coquette
there s a dance in the old dame yet
toujours gai toujours gai

i once was an innocent kit
wotthehell wotthehell
with a ribbon my neck to fit
and bells tied onto it
o wotthehell wotthehell
but a maltese cat came by
with a come hither look in his eye
and a song that soared to the sky
and wotthehell wotthehell
and i followed adown the street
the pad of his rhythmical feet
o permit me again to repeat
wotthehell wotthehell

my youth i shall never forget
but there s nothing i really regret
wotthehell wotthehell
there s a dance in the old dame yet
toujours gai toujours gai

the things that i had not ought to
i do because i ve gotto
wotthehell wotthehell
and i end with my favorite motto
toujours gai toujours gai

boss sometimes i think
that our friend mehitabel
is a trifle too gay

Aye, lads and ladies, a pleasure to be hear it tis! A big thank you to young Clifton for the invite, and to all of you for this incredibly warm welcome. Strikes me that this is a place where one can rope off an area, put on a show (from the Canadian border down to Mexico -- and beyond), have a grand time and learn a great deal in the process! Nice to be with y'all.

He's Real! See!

Thread drift warning....incoming thread drift!!

Hey, &AAcuteine, that's one of my favourites! I am honoured! Just so you know, it's lower case "k" because when I signed on as katlaughing, there already was a "Kat". Phoaks got tired of signing my whole name and shortened it to "Kat", BUT, the other KAT-who-was-here-before-me does post now and then and I don't want to offend her, so I figure if I stress the lower case "k", it'll help. Phew!

Rob-O my boy I have no idea what these folks are talking abiut and I welcome you to the Mudcat. The fact that you are Clifton's brother does NOT stand you in good stead however since he is a well known foot fetishist with long record of transgressions including a second degree felony with a Wingtip and a series of Capezio misdemeanors.

We welcome you anyway, especially since you have shown up! We were hornswoggled on past occasions with Hiroshi Ogura and kat's friend "Fast Eddie." Try not to pay any attention to Aine, as she too has her share of problems...some of which can work out well for you if you're a saggy ass tortoise. If you are not, you'll find her to be Texan.............

This is a great place with lots of great music and people. Let the kid brother show you around....join in wherever and whenever....and hide your shoes.

I am, admittedly, a turtle man from way back. Had box turtles cruising my living room until, well, for awhile. Raised a batch of turtles from pistachio size to full-grown guard turtles. Raced 'em, too -- was there when Three-Feet Pete of Joe D.'s stable won the International Federation for the Advancement of Racing Turtles (IFART) champeenship one year in Jersey. He fell out of Joe's jeep on the way over, suffering a skinned knee on his bad wheel. Was so freaked out, he'd take off running whenever we put him on the ground! Anyhoot, you get the picture. Hard-shell harmony, that's for me.
