Lyr Req: Grenadier and Lady and Wassail?

I'm learning this tune on the harp (learning the harp is my Pandemic Winter #2 project), and thinking that it would work beautifully as a wassail song. Is this a thing? Do you know of any wassail song that uses this tune?

I am sorry I read that as grenadine and thought Not in *my* wassailbowl you don't...

But the tune is lovely.

Yikes! Right, no grenadine in my wassail, either! I may have to make up a Maine Highlands Wassail to the tune, though.

The tune is part of "Sheep Crook and Black Dog," recorded by Steeleye Span in 1972. That's right, 'Catters, almost FIFTY years ago.

They got it from Ewan MacColl, who with Peggy Seeger recorded it in 1963 from Caroline Hughes, an English Traveler.

I wouldn't be surprised if I've heard "Gloucestershire Wassail" sung to this tune, maybe FIFTY years ago by the Watersons.

If not, go ahead and do it yourself. The words and music make a good match.

And few will know....

To me, it sounds more like a relative of The Shepherd and his Fife, a song Cecil Sharp had from Henry Thomas of Chipping Sodbury, South Gloucestershire, in 1907.
