Very sorry to hear of the death of one of bluegrass music's best. J.D. Crowe, from Lexington Kentucky, played a powerful and always tasty 5-finger roll on many of the genre's best. Crowe played regularly with Red Allen, Jimmy Martin, his own band The New South and the Bluegrass Album Band. Scruggs was his inspiration but JD dabbled in many modern folk and country tunes as well. His voice was a reliable third harmony below the melody. Many major talents first found their voice under his guidance, including Keith Whitley, Jimmy Gaudreau, Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice and Jerry Douglas. Catch this generation's best in person while you still can!
