18 Nov 96 - 12:55 PM (#429) Subject: Tamashaw or 'Underneath her apron' From: currie@rivers.dra.hmg.gb There is a song on the database called "Underneath her apron" listed as sung by Judy Collins. I have heard another version by a Scottish band (Battlefield?) which contains lines something like: "Wha gave to the tamashaw(???) beneath your starched brow(???) ?" This 'tamashaw' (or maybe tomorshore or....) occurs several times in the song. It's driving me crazy trying to work out what it is. Can anybody shed a little light? Ian Currie |

Hence she now has a baby to wrap up in her apron. Sleeve notes state, "Alan (Reid) learnt this song from TOCHER magazine, a publication from the archives of The School Of Scottish Studies, Edinburgh University. It was collected by Bessie Whyte..." |
