Songs and Sovereignty in Ukraine: An Online Lecture
with Maria Sonevytsky
Tuesday, March 8
5:30pm Pacific Time

FREE / Preregistration required
Learn more and register online https://washington.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwtc--hqj8iGdVUNJIrdSakwvF2yrGzDQpA
Hosted by the University of Washington

Maria Sonevytsky, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Music at Bard College, vocalist, accordionist, author of "Wild Music: Sound and Sovereignty in Ukraine" and producer of the Chornobyl Songs Project, will contextualize Russia's unfolding invasion of Ukraine through the history of traditional and contemporary music and the testimonials of Ukrainians, especially musicians, who have been living in geopolitical precariousness for their entire lives.

"I never pray, but since last week it is all I do. I pray for peace. I pray for de-escalation. I pray for the ordinary Ukrainians--some of whom I know and love--who are displaced, waiting in bomb shelters, etc. I pray for the people experiencing racism at the border. And I pray for the ordinary Russians whose economy and futures are also imploding, who didn't ask for this suicide mission in their names. And I pray for all of us." —Maria Sonevytsky

Anne, the main reason we kept the Mudcat Facebook page public is so when people post about activities like this (or make it an event on the page) it is shareable. Please post this over there as an event (I see another one there already - the more the merrier!) Here's the link to the other one:

Our guest artists will include Cantor Sharon Bernstein, Achi Ben-Shalom, Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, Cindy Paley, and Ami Goodman. The attached flyer gives more info about each participant and the event.
As we raise our voices in outrage, protest, and comfort in solidarity for all those fighting, suffering, grieving and dying in Ukraine, we ask that donations be made to HIAS and the World Central Kitchen - two organizations providing daily relief on the ground in the region.

REGISTRATION is REQUIRED. CLICK on this link to register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0vdeioqjIqGtD72L9hUgGurBgJW2RR7Em

Please join in about 10-15 minutes ahead of time. We'll admit you from a waiting room. Our space for Zoom viewing is limited to the first 100, but the event will be viewable in real time on YouTube: https://youtu.be/7G9Z8o_A23w

If anyone would like to watch our second Concert for Ukraine (which too place on April 3rd), or possibly donate to the fundraising, you'll find the link at https://justgiving.com/fundraising/musicandstories
It was a wonderful evening - the video is flawed (editing issues) but gives a good flavour of it all. So far we've raised £5,189.00 for the UNHCR.

Join KQED Live for this rare San Francisco appearance and interview with Sadovska, an artist renowned for her projects that merge Ukrainian folk song with contemporary theater and social activism. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February, Sadovska has been tirelessly offering her evocative voice to raise international awareness of, and aid for, the embattled people of her homeland. Kitka will join Sadovska to perform a set of haunting Ukrainian polyphonic folk songs expressing the fragility, fierceness, and resilience of the Ukrainian spirit.

I would start a new thread, Felipa, as your concert isn't online. Sounds great - wish I lived closer!
