Beware

lyrics by Etta James in How Strong Is a Woman: The Island Sessions

Didn't I make you feel like you were the only man?
Didn't I give you everything that a woman possibly can?
Oh, but the longer love I give you it's never enough
And I'm gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough
So come on, come on, come on, come on
And take it, take another little piece of my heart now, baby
Break it, break another little piece of my heart now, honey
Honey, have another little piece of my heart now, baby
You know you've got it if it makes you feel good
(If it makes you feel good)
You're out on the street looking good
Oh, you know, you deep down in your heart that it ain't right
You never ever hear me, you never hear me when I, when I cry at night
Oh, but each time I tell myself I just can't stand the pain
(I can't stand)
But when you hold me in your arms I've seen [Incomprehensible]
Again and again, and again
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Take it, take another little piece of my heart now, baby
Break it, break another little bit of my heart now, honey
Honey, have another little piece of my heart now, baby
You know you've got it if it makes you feel good
You know you've got it if it makes you feel good
Take it, take another little piece of my heart now, baby
Break it, break another little piece of my heart now, honey
Honey, have another little piece of my heart now, baby
You know you've got it if it makes you feel good

I think the lyrics posted above must be from the wrong song. Here's what I hear, via Spotify:

BEWARE
(Words and music by Eric Randle)

She's up early in the mornin', dialin' your phone, talkin' 'bout what your man did last night.
'Course she wouldn't be worried 'bout what your man did, if she had her own thing up tight.
Now her so-little plan, to keep you fightin' your man, hopin' that you'll put him down,
But when you throw him out, Lord, Lord knows, she'll have him 'fore his feet hit the groun'.

CHORUS:
You better beware of a dog that bring a bone; she's only tryin' to break up your home.
You better beware of a dog that bring a bone; she's only tryin' to break up your home.

She's the leader of the grapevine, always on time, to spread some gossip aroun'.
She'll try to use the one that she's talkin' to, just puttin' the next one down.
She'll tell you [to] watch me, and me to watch you; we'll try to steal each other's man,
But you can be damn sure she'll try to steal 'em both, if ever she got a chance.
CHORUS

You know she'll find a way to pick your mind, put you on the gossip train.
She'll use what you say to bring about hate between you, Shirley, Annie, an' Jane.
CHORUS

As sung by Etta James on "How Strong Is a Woman: The Island Sessions" (1993)
Also on Etta James, "Stickin' to My Guns" (1990)

I just figured out that the first set of lyrics posted above are actually PIECE OF MY HEART, originally recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967, covered by Big Brother and the Holding Company (vocal by Janis Joplin) in 1968, and recorded by many others, including Etta James on "Deep in the Night" (1978).

Good eye, Jim. I may have found that myself, although I doubt it. Because the 'cat is so slow, I worry about losing stuff before I get it down somewhere.
