BS: Buffalo (New York) Shootings - 14 May 2022

Once again we, on this side of the pond, read with great sadness that that yet another gun debacle has occured in the USA.

I think I speak for many people on this side and would plead, once again, that guns in the US need to be banned.

Yes I know, we have murders in the UK, but for crying out loud 10 people where killed in the space of few minutes and a further three people where injured.

The simple solution to reduce, not eliminate, the numbers of mass shootings is to limit (severely) the number of guns.

If you guys and girls cannot see this there is little if any hope that these killings won't continue ad infinitum

I should also add, that because of your draconian laws regarding the death penalty, that if these killings had happened in another state the man himself would executed.

Crazy.

I can't disagree - at least regarding the military style guns, the semi-automatic guns, and a helluva lot of the handguns. Hunting rifles have always been ok as far as I'm concerned. Most of the rest are a waste of the metal they're cast from. A horrible waste of human life. And people just keep buying more. In Texas now people can carry guns without a permit. Another reason to want to move out of the state eventually. We hope to make it out alive.

On the other 'hand' while a majority of states require a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public, in 42 states, it is wonderfully legal for civilians to openly carry loaded, semi-automatic rifles in public without a permit which is REAL freedom.
freedom
"Guns speak louder than speech and blood is thicker than water. You're gonna hafta pry my gun out of my cold dead 'hand'."
quote Charlton Heston.

With logic like that, guns are only second to nukes.
America has always had open carry nukes. In my lifetime there have been 32 nuclear weapon accidents, known as "Broken Arrows." A Broken Arrow is defined as an unexpected event involving nuclear weapons that result in the accidental launching, firing, detonating, theft or loss of the weapon. To date, six nuclear weapons have been lost and never recovered. The best place to buy bomb grade nuclear stuff is Russia.
America loses bombs but Russia sells them.

I bet the NRA are bloody proud that they are able to protect the right to own the means to go out at waste 10 human lives in a few seconds.

All this from a country that spouts pro life form the moment of conception which expires form the moment of birth. I suppose there is a rationale in their argument that believe Americans have a duty to breed and provide enough targets for gun owners to waste.

You’re dead right, SPB, but it ain’t gonna change. Most Americans are brainwashed from birth to believe that it’s their ‘right’ to be armed to the teeth, to shoot the guy who comes through the window to steal their laptop, and to ‘protect’ themselves against ‘the bad guys’ and the ‘mad-dog killers’.. They simply cannot conceive of a country with a population of ~65 million where hardly anybody, not even the police, is armed and where the annual number of deaths by shooting (including suicides) averages <100.

In order to rid the US of its guns, you would need to reverse the psyche that dictates that no-one is ‘safe’ without a gun. Not gonna happen any time soon, certainly not in my lifetime.

It’s so, so sad.

And before someone dredges up the c**p that this justifies carrying firearms so people can defend themselves in such situations, this comes from a press article:

"Inside the store, a security guard who was a retired Buffalo police officer fired multiple shots, but a bullet that hit the gunman's bulletproof vest had no effect, the commissioner added.

The gunman then killed the guard before stalking through the store shooting other victims."

So an armed security guard, probably trained in the use of firearms was unable to incapacitate the gunman. That tears the NRA argument that people need to be armed to protect themselves to pieces.

The NRA excuse for the preservation of gun sales and the bloody result is "it takes a GOOD guy with a gun to; kill, take down, take out, splatter, waste, pink spray, blow his head off, eliminate and teach a lesson to a BAD guy.

Some of their other strategies which they use to increase sales and deaths is arming teachers, arming children with the 'Cricket' pink child size rifles, arming everyone and new improved ammunition.

The NRA is mostly passe' due to corruption and insider theft. It is now the domain of not just manufactures and opportunists but white nationalists, conspiracy nuts and people with the scruples and wisdom of Trump.

Oh I almost forgot, all the politicians willing to sell their souls for election.

ALL THE HEARTS ARE HEAVY AGAIN, OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO...
NO ONE SAW THIS COMING !!!
Its due to mental illness - racism - drugs - sex - money...bad jokes bad breath bad attitude and bad hiding
there outta be a law.

However, the NRA has been under assault and is about to go bankrupt or dissolve itself.

From May 2021: "The bankruptcy trial had paused other legal challenges the NRA had been facing, but this decision returns the group to its confrontation with the New York attorney general, who is seeking to shut it down over alleged "fraud and abuse.""

FOX broadcasts the replacement theory as fact that the Jews are replacing white supremacy with immigrants nightly.

I'm not exaggerating.

The Buffalo killer of a couple days ago also presumably live-streamed the event.

I agree that considerable guns and ammo legislation is Constitutional, however we in the U.S. are not in a situation where we can rationally come to agreement on this. The forces of interest have damn near institutionalized severe partisanship on this issue.

No, I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a google away
Oh, little darling of mine
I can't for the life of me
Remember a sadder day
I know they say let it be
But it just don't work out that way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again
No, I would not give you false hope (no)
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reunion
Is only a scrap book away
Oh, little darling of mine
I just can't believe it's so
Though it seems strange to say
I never been laid so low
In such a mysterious way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again
But I would not give you false hope (no)
On this strange and mournful day
When mother and child disunion
Is only a gunman away
Oh, oh, the mother and child reunion
Is only a motion away
Oh, the mother and child sad ruin
Is only a moment away (oh oh)
Oh, the mother and child disunion
Is only a bullet away
Oh (oh) the mother and child sad ruin
Is only a moment away
Oh, oh, the mother and child disunion
Oh, is only a motion away
Oh, the mother and child disunion
Is only a moment away (way, way, way)

I fear that the decades since Columbine have desensitized me about shootings on school campuses, a sad thing to admit.

What outrages me about the slaughter in the Buffalo supermarket
is how it tears the heart out of a community by killing citizens who were prominent, productive, active contributors to the common good.
Profile after profile of the racially-target casualties
describes their work, their affiliations, their social consciousness.

The surviving adult son of one of the Buffalo shooting victims
wants to highlight this year's
USA/federal Juneteenth holiday
with attention to the racism behind the Buffalo massacre.

I can hardly blame him.

Just heard on the news that the New York supreme court has removed the restriction to need a permit to carry a firearm on the street. With a bt of luck this will result in all New Yorkers annihilating each other and solving the problem.   IRONY

I assure you, neighbors in the UK,
a lot of us in the US
are heartsick and disgusted over this one.

So, that's the "judicial" branch of our three branches;
meanwhile in the "legislative" branch,
the US Senate came up with a gun bill
that even Mitch McConnell could live with.
Getting it through the Senate took too long,
now it goes to the House.

We already know what the "executive" branch thinks of the gun violence.

small correction: The Federal Supream Court overturned a 110 year old law that 'concealed guns' require a special permission. Now it will be legal to have a gun outside the home with no permit.

This was written by justice Clarance Thomas. It almost feels like revenge by Clarance.

Clarance was also the angel with no wings in Its a Wonderful Life.

AMERICA IS NOW A PATCHWORK NATION.
In a climate of culture wars and tremendous economic uncertainty, the media have often reduced America to a simplistic schism between red states and blue states. Using on the ground reporting and statistical analysis to get past generalizations and probe American communities in depth. The result is Our Patchwork Nation is not merely divided over abortion states and gun loco states but in multiple diversities that often defies conventional wisdom.

Looking at the data, it looks like the country breaks into twelve distinct types of communities, and old categories like "soccer mom" and "working class" don't matter as much as we think. Instead, by examining Boom Towns, Evangelical Epicenters, Military Bastions, Service Worker Centers, Campus and Careers, Immigration Nation, Minority Central, Tractor Community, Mormon Outposts, Emptying Nests, Industrial Metropolises, and Monied Burbs, the subtle distinctions in how Americans vote is more varied than science/antiscience. Every State will have their own confusing laws tht cover investment, shopping, reproduction and otherwise the belief of people who may be a minority in some way. What people experience on their local streets and in their daily lives is not going to be about Rights and Freedoms but instead more about local shared hatreds. imho

UNITED WE STAND - Don't count on it.
