From: The Sandman no , i used to go when the festival was run by Richard Grainger, It was more community orientated then, for example, he had school children getting up on stage and singing songs such as scarborough fishermen |

29 May 22 - 07:56 PM (#4142832) Subject: RE: 2022 Scarborough festival - who went? From: keberoxu Eliza Carthy and the Restitute Band were a week ago, so too late there. A few other events announced as late as 3 June. official website, "Big Ideas By the Sea" programme 2022 I made a misleading statement in the previous post. It is more precise to say that the first such festival happened in 2021, last year. So says the website, and the newspaper. |

30 May 22 - 01:58 AM (#4142857) Subject: RE: 2022 Scarborough festival - who went? From: The Sandman it is not new,. there was a maritime festival, which involved the community back ten years ago [for a number of years ] i played there several years running That festival was organised some years ago, most of the venues were pub sings., and involved schoolchildren singing scarborough fishermen song The fact that something is sold out, does not make it a good festival. Keborexu do not believe everything in the newspapers |
30 May 22 - 04:16 AM (#4142861) Subject: RE: 2022 Scarborough festival - who went? From: Backwoodsman Was it advertised as a Music Festival, Keb? If so, I haven’t seen it, nor have I heard it being spoken about. That piece from the SN seems to suggest that it’s more of a ‘Green’ festival of lectures, discussion groups, etc., with a gig by EC and her band as part of it. But I could be misunderstanding… |

30 May 22 - 06:57 AM (#4142869) Subject: RE: 2022 Scarborough festival - who went? From: GUEST Hi all There are a number of different music festivals and other festivals that happen in Scarborough - in fact it's festival city with one almost every month, from jazz and blues to beards and Sci-Fi. The Eliza Carthy performance was part of 'Big Ideas by the Sea' - a new festival which has been running for two years. It's not a folk festival but Eliza and Martin were also involved in last years programme so I'm hoping there might be another performance next year.... other musical performances this year were from 5 Star Brass and the Fyllingthorpe folk choir. Scarborough Sea Fest usually takes place in July but hasn't happened for the last two years. That includes music performances and food on the pier, plus in 2019 there was a fringe stage on the good ship Marie which focussed on folk music. Whitby is of course also well served with the annual Whitby folk Festival and the Great North Festival on the North York moors at Botton Village. And there's Filey Folk Festival which is the May Bank Holiday weekend. Hope this helps Bridget |

31 May 22 - 04:57 AM (#4142961) Subject: RE: 2022 Scarborough festival - who went? From: GUEST,Phil d'Conch Eliza and Martin at Big Ideas by the Sea sounds closer to 'old school' lefty folkie than appearing at a music festival, whatever the type. Music with a purpose, as it were. Now, if you really want to screw things up, absolutely nothing tops rap music -- Fyre Festival. |
