Lyr Req: I want to find where thecrossroads are

This is a song lyrics req, please don't give me directions!

Or Robert Johnson refs; I *know* that one.

What I'm looking for is a recent modern song by a woman who after enumerating her attempts to get ahead in the music business sings "I want to know where the crossroads are so I can sell my soul!".

Might be one of those songs where that's the only good line in the song but I at least want to hear it again so I can tell.

Chances are if you know the song I will be able to find a playable copy, but I didn't see that in the new "enforced" ('cause you can't type anything not on menu into the box) menu of choices.

Hi Joan F,

I know it isn't this one but it's about Crossroads and it's a female singer:

Evie Clair - Crossroads

Still looking.

It's not this one either:

Tracy Chapman - Crossroads

And Cyndi Lauper does her version of the Robert Johnson song, so it's not her.

Hi again,

It would help to if you could give us a bit more information.

The usual questions:

What **music genre** would you describe it as? This will help a lot with the search.

When did you hear it? This year, last year, in the last few years?

Was it recorded? Did you hear it on the radio, see it on TV, hear it on vinyl, CD, digital, YouTube, etc? Did you hear it live?

Do you remember any more of the lyrics? Please post what you remember to help with internet searches.

Musicians? What instruments were used? Was it a solo singer, or a group or were there harmonies?

Was it lively, haunting, slow, fast, dance tune, etc, etc?

Any more information would be helpful.

Heard it on local Americana station a couple years ago. They play stuff from various eras. Calling them will get me a dumb stare over the phone. A few years ago they fired long-time DJ because "we can get what you know from the internet". Uh huh. I might write said DJ about this Q.

Its up-tempo solo woman singer.

Thanks Joan F.

Unhelpful people don't make life easier.

The problem is that one line of lyrics doesn't give us much in an internet search and if the radio station plays music from various eras, it doesn't help us to zero in on a specific period and narrow down the search.

Can we eliminate hip-hop, rap, electronica etc? Is it a country style song or pop or rock or blues or something else?

I just realised, I'm not sure what you mean by describing the radio station as Americana.

I'm in Australia, and a very large chunk of music played on our radio and other media here is American but it spans a huge range of styles. That's why I asked about narrowing down the genre, but then I was thinking that maybe you were being specific by saying Americana and I don't know what that means.

"Americana" is a sort of catch-all phrase used here to mean mostly acoustic-folk-style quasi-rock stuff; in terms of genres, it's one of the most nebulous. Think of The Band, or more modern bands with similarities.

I haven't searched for this song yet but I'll give it a go.

I don't think it's the song you're looking for, but an interesting one: Crossroads by Flagship Romance

Lyrics at an archived version of their webpage (click).

I've looked a good bit and haven't found one for certain; there were a few songs I identified that I couldn't find online, so I've messaged a few people on Discogs, but as of now, I haven't found it.

If I had the exact lyrics & song was Googleable by them I'd have been able to Google it.

This one has a similar theme, but it's a rock song with a female lead and a rock band - all she wants to do is rock:

The Pretty Reckless - Take Me Down

There are lots of songs which appear to be inspired by Robert Johnson's song Cross Road Blues aka Crossroads:

Find song partial lyrics

That is one of a few sites I found where partial song lyrics can be used to search for a song.

Approximately 100 songs showed up in the results but many were repeated entries, either performed by the same person or band, or a version of a specific song by a different performer or band so at a rough guess there may be 20 or more different songs with the words "crossroads", "sell" and "soul". (In my opinion, that is a great tribute to Johnson's original song.)

To complicate the search, some of the songs have been performed by different singers or bands, so they are the same song but different performances. The song you are searching for may also have been performed by a male singer or a band so narrowing the search to a female performer may mean you miss the song you are looking for.

Perhaps you could look through the songs which showed up on the link I posted and see if you recognise the song or get some sort of lead towards the song you want to find.
