I don't think there's a lot more background than it's a song about music at a lock-in, specifically at the place he mentions in his introduction in the video. He likes to paint pictures from memories in his songs. Won him (and Paul Harrington)the Eurovision too, once upon a time. |
21 Jun 22 - 10:34 AM (#4144979) Subject: RE: Origins: After Hours (C. McGettigan) From: GUEST,MISch There's a reference to a specific pub in the liner notes to The Battlefield Band's album "After Hours": »AFTER HOURS / THE GREEN GATES / THE SHIP IN FULL SAIL Charlie McGettigan's 'After Hours' came to us as a result of Alistair's solo touring days in Ireland. The song was written in praise of the good times to be had in Kate's Bar, County Leitrim. No after hours drinking session — in Ireland or Scotland, or anywhere else we've been — would be complete without a tune or two, so we've included a pair of old session favourites in our arrangement here. From: 'On The Rise', Temple TP021« ... and while I've got "Home Ground" in front of me, I'll type out the note as well: »Charlie McGettigan, an Irish friend of Alistair's wrote this homily to the "after hours" pint, in good company. The Band have thrown a few well loved "session" tunes to add to the atmosphere and Alan fondly makes use of the Ronnie Drewaphone, in his renidition of a few bars of "Whisky in the jar".« |

AFTER HOURS 1. Going in through the side door, No need to worry now, the coast is clear. We can make a little music now, the night is ours, And it'll sound a lot sweeter after hours. /Chorus/ After hours, really let your hair down, After hours when the lights go low, Forget about your troubles and morning blues, Put up another round. 2. Paddy, sing a song like a good man, Sing it in your own way like only you can. You can give it all your feeling now, the floor is yours, And it'll sound a lot sweeter after hours. 3. Out in the clear light of dawning, Street seems so strange in the early morning. Never heard the birds sing like this before, And they sound a lot sweeter after hours. |
