Chicago canceled its parade and fireworks after 5 are killed and dozens are shot by a mass shooter. Surrounding suburbs also cancel celebrations. Most communities have canceled celebrations due to cost increases in everything from fireworks to hot dog buns. |

Even if the sale of assault-style rifles is again banned as it was in the '90s, there is no way short of a Constututional amendment to reduce the number of existing weapons. And no such amendment could pass Congress, nuch less be ratified by 3/4 of the states. New laws may be able to reduce the rate of increase as the population increases and social media erodes sanity and society. But we'll never know by how much. Mass shootings, moreover, cannot be stopped. When the madman is ready, the rifle will appear. |
