Lyr Add: Tea Shanties

There was a request on Facebook recently for Jonathon Jensen's "Tea Shanty".

I have spoken to Jonathon and he has sent me the following lyric (and a tune...that I cannot post here.)

THE TEA SHANTY
Hey Jolly lads and lasses all, come join me for a spree,'
Out and about through the town we'll go and have ourselves a cup of of tea.

CHORUS:
And it's sip, me hearties, sip, me boys,
Raise your pinkies high -
Stir it up will a liver spoon
And drink that porcelain dry!

Oh sit me down in a teashop quaint with a napkin on me lap,
A pot of tea and a buttered scone, and I'm a happy chap.

CHORUS

Some folks fancy Oolong tea, other like Earl Grey,
I'm quite fond of chamomile with its delicate floral bouquet.

CHORUS

Oh me Aunt Maria likes honey in her tea, me sister she does too,
I drink mine with sugar and cream like Mummy used to do.

CHORUS

Now every day at four o'clock I break for a cup of tea,
And when I'm in a reckless mood I knock back two or three!

CHORUS

Oh you won't find me in a dingy pub that smells of beer and smoke,
Swilling suds from a grimy glass and laughing at a vulgar joke. (or dirty joke)

CHORUS

Oh give me a linen tablecloth and a snow-white serviette,
Gather all me mates around, we'll have a tete a tete.

CHORUS

Oh dig me grave with a silver spade, put a teacup in me hand,
And up aloft to the heavens I'll go to drink in the promised land.

CHORUS

In addition, I also found my friend - David Diamond's version of the same theme.....

The Tea Shanty (David Diamond) -
(To the tune of 'Lowlands Away'.)

I dreamed I had a cup of tea,
Tea-bags, tea bags away my John!
The way that cuppas used to be
Tea-bags away!

Go lass, and put the kettle on.
Tea-bags, tea-bags away my John!
Don't let the water boil too long.
Tea-bags away!

And don't forget to warm the pot,
Tea-bags, tea-bags away my John!
I won't drink tea if it's not hot.
Tea-bags away!

The tea we had when I was young
Tea-bags, tea-bags away my John!
Was twice as good, three times as strong.
Tea-bags away!

Now pour the tea, but what is this?
Tea-bags, tea-bags away my John!
You call this tea? It tastes like ....!
Tea-bags, away!

"A liver spoon"?? Should that be, "a silver spoon"?
