Jerry Allison has passed away aged 82. He was the drummer with Buddy Holly and The Crickets and I'm certain many here will have danced to or at least enjoyed some of the best 50s music they made.
RIP Jerry

If it wasn't for Jerry Allison's drumming, the world of music would have been so different.   'That'll be the day', 'Peggy Sue', Not Fade Away'.. the drumming made those songs hits.   No Crickets, it would be a lesser Beatles and a myriad of other artists. Holly gets most of the idolisation, but it was the whole way his songs came together with the backing of Jerry's drumming that made them hits.    The Crickets would later go on to be a great group without Holly, and Sonny Curtis added to the line up. All original Crickets are now gone (though Sonny Curtis is still here at the current time).

The drumming on that track was amazing.

When you compare Buddy Holly's recordings with the pathetic attempts from the UK at that time - with a few exceptions of course, you realise how far ahead of his time he was!
