25 Sep 22 - 09:02 AM (#4153622) Subject: Documentary on Morris Dancing From: GUEST,Itxlan Hi, I thought Mudcatters might be interested in a newly posted ARTE France documentary: "Morris Dancing: An English Tradition" (2021) https://www.arte.tv/en/videos/103524-000-A/morris-dancing/ "Morris dancing is one of England’s oldest traditions with a history that goes back at least 500 years. In that time, it has changed, fallen into obscurity and been revived. Today a new generation is emerging to keep the tradition alive". About 90% of the documentary is in English and there are English subtitles when German is spoken. |

In the programme's "link grabber" window you'll be presented with four different qualities to choose from. Just right-click the one you want and choose "Start downloads". |

28 Sep 22 - 04:16 AM (#4154008) Subject: RE: Documentary on Morris Dancing From: Senoufou I watched it all, and there was no mention of the Sheringham Potty Festival, which occurs during the first weekend in July every year. It's very representative of Morris Dancing because sides come from all over, and there are women's sides, North West Clog, every kind of dancing represented. I'll never forget Leeds Morris, who always invited my dear husband to join in, Moss Ambrose would take his hand and lead him through the steps. I simply adore watching Morris dancing! |

29 Sep 22 - 05:38 AM (#4154114) Subject: RE: Documentary on Morris Dancing From: GUEST Hmmmmm, I'm not sure if this was a documentary about Morris Dancing with a subtext exploring the dichotomy between male/female experience, or vice versa. Lilly Cheetham: “You’re better than you know, most women are. The old confidence thing. I think that’s partly what makes it harder for women as well. It’s naturally, not naturally, probably culturally, women tend to have less confidence when it comes to their own abilities, maybe that’s coupled with the experience of having kids and being out of the work industry or whatever.” Are men really more confident than women? In or out of the "work industry"? |
29 Sep 22 - 11:00 AM (#4154144) Subject: RE: Documentary on Morris Dancing From: MaJoC the Filk > Are men really more confident than women? More like overconfident, if anything. Herself and I make a good team: I pretend to be confident (itself quite a feat), and Herself applies the brakes when (not if) I start believing my own PR and risk making even more of a fool of myself than usual. A closed mouth gathers no foot, an' all that. |
