10 Oct 22 - 05:59 AM (#4154567) Subject: Northern Kin Festival From: Dave the Gnome Anyone going in April 2023? https://www.northernkinfestival.co.uk/ Not exactly folk but lots of folk related acts. Tickets booked and I'm looking forward to seeing my old Favourites, Jethro Tull, as well as the Levellers and Beth Orton. It will be interesting to see Hawkwind and the Sweet seeing as they cannot be the original line ups! Must try to get to see many of the others too but I suspect there will just not be enough time! |

I understand people were saying: "Who'd have thought it? --- Mad Martin and our Nicola." Up pipes Don Piretta: "Stands to reason: they both like Jethro Tull." |

20 Apr 23 - 01:30 PM (#4170368) Subject: RE: Northern Kin Festival From: Dave the Gnome Well, pretty close now. Starts a week tomorrow. Tent checked out. All works well. Wish I could say the same for my back. May end up sleeping sat up in the car! Still, the music will be good :-D |

02 May 23 - 05:55 PM (#4171359) Subject: RE: Northern Kin Festival From: Dave the Gnome Bin an gon an dun it :-) Music was suberb. Atmosphere was terrific. Staff were great. Organisation was dire :-( Everything from poor site access to disgusting toilets was blamed on the weather. This is England in April for heavens sake! If the organisers could not predict that there was going to be rain and allow for that contingency, they should not be running a festival. No communication to the audience and campers apart from through Facebook and even then that was often wrong. What they had told campers (Arena open at 11AM on Saturday. Additional gate open at 7AM on Monday) was not passed on to security staff who would not let people into the arena until 12 Noon (when the first acts started) and did not unlock the extra gate at all as far as I can tell. Security staff were briefed to let no alcohol through the gates of the arena so painstaking searches of luggage and person added to the queues. The staff were not, seemingly, briefed to stop anyone smoking pot in the arena marquees though! No mention of any refunds for missed acts of course. A taste of the news on the festival. There are plenty of others and none, as far as I can see, are exaggurated Anyhow, believe it or not, I really enjoyed it. It's just that I cannot believe the level of incompetance achieved by the organisers. It was almost as if they were part of our present government :-D |

06 May 23 - 04:40 AM (#4171613) Subject: RE: Northern Kin Festival From: GUEST,JoeG I love Skipinnish. First saw them at Shrewsbury Folk Festival when they stood in for Thea Gilmore. Agreed re Runrig comparison. They had a couple of their songs in their set I really fancied Northern Kin but too early in the year for camping for me. Amazing line up but relieved we didn't go as we need proper loos! Looks like they are going to develop a permanent site near Thornley (I think) If they put in mains connected loos we may go! |

13 May 23 - 02:55 AM (#4172107) Subject: RE: Northern Kin Festival From: Dave the Gnome They have offered a good deal on next year's tickets for those there this year. Sadly, there is no-one on I would really like to see apart from the Peat Bog Fairies and I can see them elsewhere anyway. Still, they have admitted their mistakes and done as much as they can to ensure they don't happen again. Good luck to them :-) |
