Lyr Add: Foxes Go Hunting

21 Oct 22 - 10:54 PM (#4155905)
Subject: Lyr Add: Foxes Go Hunting (Jane Coombs)
From: Joe Offer

We heard this delightful song today at the online camp of the Portland (Oregon) Folk Music Society. David Kidman sang it very well.

FOXES GO HUNTING
(Jane Coombs; amended MWR)

CHORUS
Daddy Fox, Bold Reynolds, and Reynard-O:
Through town and country foxes roam;
Daddy Fox, Bold Reynolds, Reynard-O,
And a hunting he will go.

Down lanes, through the fields, by the spinney and beyond,
All through the farmyard and down to the pond;
In the autumn mist when the leaves fall to the ground,
He hunts the night in his coat of tawny brown.

Oh, across the country and looking for his fill,
Along bare hedges, then skirting round the hill,
Hiding from the moonlight, seeking out his prey,
Hunting in the darkness and home by light of day.

Well the urban fox finds life is to his taste,
Close by man he savours what we waste;
In park and gardens, taking what we leave,
Picking up our scraps, many hungry mouths to feed.

By factory wall down the alley to the yard,
He leaves his den to hunt beneath the stars;
On the quiet road framed in yellow light
He sniffs the air, then trots off into the night.
