Chorley Cakes Ceilidh Club (Lancashire)

This is a bit short notice, but Chorley Cakes are starting a new Ceilidh Club, beginning this Thursday 27th October.
Who or what is/are Chorley Cakes? 1) a type of Lancashire currant cake popular in Chorley, Lancashire. 2) a community ceilidh band based in Chorley.
So, what's a Ceilidh Club? Sort of a cross between a dance club and a folk club. The basic format is a dance with entertainment spots, which might variously include singing, morris/sword dancing, clog/step dancing, mumming etc. Such things have existed before, but don't seem to be very common.
The venue is St Mary's Community Centre, Broadfield Drive, Leyland, Lancs. PR25 1PD - a few minutes from the M6. Doors open at 7.30pm, when musicians are welcome to join us in a few tunes as people arrive. Atrocities commence at 8pm with dancing. Stone the Crows border morris will be doing a spot, plus floor singers. Entry on the first night will be a mere £2, but as the room hire will be going up next month, that will be increasing. However, we aim to keep the price low to encourage families. Under-16s get in free, under adult supervision. The club will run monthly. on the last Thursday. Chorley Cakes will be the house band, but if things go well, we hope to be able to book guest singers, dance teams, callers, and maybe an occasional guest band (not all on the same night of course!)
There's a Chorley Cakes facebook page, I'm told - whatever that is....

Thanks for the link Freddy - I never could make clickies, and I'm not on Faceache - don't do social meeja. Mr Red: thanks for the link; I'll follow that UP. First night went all right. We broke even with a few quid over, so not a bad start. Just hope it builds up from there. Next club night is 24th November. I'll be giving details in due course. CCCC

May we wish you all a very happy Christmas, and suggest that, after all the traditional seasonal face-stuffing, you need to get along to the Chorley Cakes Ceilidh Club to dance off all the accumulated blubber. This month's jollities will be on Thursday 29th - next Thursday.
Hoping to see you there. CCCC

This month's club night is next Thursday, 27th July, with a return visit from Stone The Crows (border morris).
No club night in August, as it's too close to the bank holiday, so there'll be nobody about. Back to normal in September.
