23 Nov 22 - 01:22 PM (#4158504) Subject: Obit: Wilko Johnson- Dr Feelgood From: GUEST,Nick Dow I was saddened to hear of the death of Wilko Johnson tonight. My involvement with him was only slight, but I found him a friendly, funny man, and an unusual and unique guitarist. I had a Chicago-style Blues band for 20 years, just playing local gigs. we supported Wilko in Blackpool, and he used our gear. Norman Watt Roy his bass player took a memorable solo that night, and Wilko was on fire. We supported him again a couple of years later, and I had the pleasure of interviewing him for the BBC. We talked about Wilko's great hero Mick Green of the Pirates (Johnny Kydd & The Pirates). I later interviewed Mick Green as well thanks to Wilko. His real name was John Wilkinson, and he used to be a teacher. Rest in peace Wilko and thanks for some great memories. We miss you. Nick Dow |
