  Her Folk pedigree is from playing keyboard as part of the Unthanks.
  Studying Babylonian poetry is the cited route. Plus lyre & harp experts.

Richard Dumbrill is the main guy for this.

Peter Pringle has done a bunch of recreated Sumerian stuff, mainly the Epic of Gilgamesh using recreated period instruments.

We HAVE some 2000 year old lyrics from pre-history. According to Mel Brooks, as interviewed by Carl Reiner, the words in translation from stone age memes from the world's first national anthem, are:

"Let 'em all go to hell, except Cave seventy six!"
