BS: who else is having a white Christmas?

Apart from the fact that last evening there were white-out conditions
which made the homeward commute terribly scary,
the snow that covers my part of New England makes for a picture-postcard-perfect scene.

I'm surely not the only one with fresh snow for the holiday weekend.

Since every state in the contiguous 50 has at least someplace below freezing, chances are good for a lot of responses.

An amusing meme passed through Facebook this afternoon:

WEATHER WARNING

Southerners are urged not
to travel unless absolutely
necessary.

Northerners you will need
your big coat.

Not even a white cloud in the sky today.....our forecast is for 32 deg C (that's 89.6 deg F, for those of you who still use old money) and sunny.

We won't need the coat.

28 deg C forecast here, Jennie. We've finished all our Christmas revelries and Hubby and I are going for a lovely Christmas lunch picnic, somewhere near the water.

We'll need the sunscreen and maybe the mozzie repellent.

I just tried to find some images of Christmas by artist Roland Harvey.

I have an A4 size promo pack advertising his Christmas collection of cards, gift wrap etc possibly from back in the mid '80's. The cover shows an unhappy, red-faced Santa sweltering in his full red suit with fur collar. Open out the two sides and he is in a short sleeve shirt, board shorts and thongs in the desert. Open that part and he is in his swimming costume at the beach. That's an iconic Oz Christmas!

Although I think I heard that there was snow somewhere in Oz this week. Weird!

Helen, we used to have a Ozzie children's Christmas book illustrated by Roland Harvey....it may still be on the shelf; the books are long overdue for a tidy-up. It was fun.

Yes, I always chose to buy his Christmas cards when they were available.

Good weather here in the Sierra Foothills of California, although there is some fog to make mountain driving interesting. Lots of snow uphill.
Last year at this time, we had the worst snowstorm this area has had in 25 years, and we were without power for a week. It took us most of the last year to repair the damages.
Lots of rain predicted for the week after Christmas. In this part of the foothills, that could easily turn into snow.
Merry Christmas!

Here in southeast Alaska we have fresh snow, with more forecast. Tiny flakes though, and with the breeze, they're not piling up appreciably. I feel selfish about it but since I'm not going anywhere I hope for more of the beauteous stuff.

We've been walking the black Lab at our local dog park. Yesterday it was about zero degrees (F) and she was running with her park friends and having a great time and still chewing on ice to keep cool! We're about to to take her out at somewhat warmer conditions, (10) but slightly windy. We've received above average snow this early in the season and snow is everywhere. Moose are coming closer in to town than usual due to the depth.

I just saw a news item about the snow conditions in the U.S.

Deadly US winter storms leave people without power or flights, as the country faces record cold.

It's bad and there have been fatalities.

After many years of weather emergencies in Australia, one type after another, I can only hope and pray that the winter storms in the U.S. do not cause major catastrophes.

The foot and a half of snow that fell on southwestern Ontario over Christmas is mostly gone, washed away by three days of rain, and counting. Below-freezing temperatures are not expected to return until next Wednesday.

The Weather Network tells me that conditions are much the same in Buffalo, New York, which got almost twice as much snow as we did.

Now, a Christmas blizzard is absolutely normal for Ontario, although maybe I should say it is consistent with the pattern I have observed over some 68 years of sentience. This thaw -- not so much. That's weird.
