Martin Simpson singing "Dives and Lazarus unaccompanied -- was that ever released on an album? I heard it once and got goosebumps. Would love to hear it again.

Where did you hear that? In a live performance or somewhere on the net?

I only know of two recordings by him, an instrumental version on his and Wu Man's 1995 album Music for the Motherless Child, and accompanied singing on his 2001 album The Bramble Briar (plus reissues of this on a few anthologies).

I heard a recording years ago, and it got brought to mind when I came across a blog post about the song. They began with one verse of Simpson's a capella performance, then faded it out and started yammering I mean chatting.

Episode 7 of series 1 of The Old Songs podcast is about "Dives and Lazarus" with interviewee Nick Hart. It opens with Martin Simpson's performance from his album "The Bramble Briar", but this is with guitar accompaniment. There are, of course, renditions from several other performers excerpted as well. The podcast closes with Nick Hart singing the song complete, a capella.
