Music on 'Beyond Paradise' (BBC TV)

Spin off from Death in Paradise moved from the Carribean to Cornwall with Kris Marshall. Very enjoyable in itself but with the theme by Bellowhead and some very folky incidental music I thought it well worth a mention here. Treat yourself. Doc Martin meets Agatha Christie with a great soundtrack :-)

I've seen ads for that program appear on ads promoting the streaming service called BritBox. I will have to check around and see where else it appears.

For anyone interested, the theme by Bellowhead is the first verse of 'Just As the Tide Was Flowing'. Click here

Details of some of the incidental music used can be found at soundtracki.com.

A fan of 'Death in Paradise' have watched some of this. Didn't particularly care for the first episode, but thought that the second was much better. Not seen the third yet, but will catch up this weekend.

In a strange sort of way I kind of fancy his lady policeman sidekick. :-)

I believe that the people of Looe are not enamored with the increase in visitors the series is causing

An odd thing. I've lived in Cornwall for 35 years and, in all that time, I've never been to Looe. It's only an hour or less away on the other coast. The last time I went there was in 1962. My dad hired a rowing boat, and he left his specs on the boat seat and I sat on them and busted 'em. He accused me of being careless and I accused him of being bloody stupid for leaving them on a seat. That incident might just go a long way to explaining the belligerence that some might see here. I'm actually an incredibly fluffy bunny...

We did get over it, by the way! :-)

On my first LP, I altered the tune for a song called 'The poor old couple'. Lo and behold it cropped up in Poldark, complete with my alteration. I'm sure the cheques' are in the post! And all pigs are fuelled up and ready to fly.

The Wellerman shanty was in the last one. They'd have been better with something from Fisherman's Friends!

I am absolutely a non-fan of Bellowhead (unlike my precious daughter, who thinks they're the best thing since sliced bread, along with the Levellers). I didn't even recognise the song until it was pointed out here. Give me Shirley Collins on No Roses any day.

("No Roses" -- now there WAS an album...)

Good show though, and I still fancy that lady policeman...

I like Bellowhead but never really got into the Levellers. Funily enough though I am going to a festival with Daughter in Law where the Levellers are headling. What caught my eye was the other two headliners though - Jethro Tull and Hawkwind!

Some other good acts on as well though - Nothern Kin Festival

Not seem this weeks Beyodnd Paradise yet but will probably watch in on catch up tonight

Kate Rusby song included in the last one.

There are a couple of Spotify play lists with music from Death in Paradise. I reckon one from this series must be in the offing too.

What is the instrumental music at the end of the programme, played when the credits are screened? It isn't the same as the opening theme.
A friend insists we have danced to it at a ceilidh but I can't place it.

It sounds like a Bellowhead mix of morris tunes to me.

I'll check if Shazam can recognise it

Nah. Shazam gave 2 different answers. Both obviously wrong. It does sound like Bellowhead but I don't recognise it.

There's a one-minute clip of Bellowhead recording the theme at Rockfield Studios. It's available on Facebook:

and Twitter:

https://twitter.com/BeyondPOfficial/status/1633143884086755337?s=20

but doesn't appear to be around on FTA channels such as YouTube...

Thanks Hagman - I didn't realise it was recorded specialy for the series! It is just the opening theme in that clip but I guess they could have recoreded the closing credits tune at the same time

possibly answering my own question after hearing a folk song on spotify - could the end music be a speeded up version of "blue eyed stranger"? It isn't listed on the Bellowhead discography.
