As well as being a great singer, he was also had the (very) rare gift of being a super MC. Remembering some outstanding concerts at Whitby Festival and sending deepest condolences to Gerda - Jim & Georgina

Very sad news. John came to our local folk club a couple of times when he moved into our area, and I bumped into him maybe twice in our local Costa Coffee. A nice man. RIP, and condolences to family, friends, and colleagues.

Paddy as he was known to many of us, rose to fame on the Hull folk scene before Cockersdale was formed. He helped to run Folk Union One before starting a club out in the sticks at the Fox and Coney, South Cave. Fond memories. RIP, Paddy.

Condolences to Gerda.

I didn't know John either, only through Cockersdale. There are some lovely sounds of the group on Youtube. My condolences go to all those who know and love him and I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread. RIP John.

I have heard that it's to be a quiet affair with just family. May be some sort of memorial concert later.

So sorry to hear that: loved all the songs. Did a week-long workshop with Cockersdale at Sidmouth some years back - "Picking Sooty Blackberries" and many others of Keith Marsden's songs, which was so enjoyable. Condolences to John's family.
