BS: Golden Wedding anniversary mishaps!

This year the lovely and long suffering Mrs G and I celebrated our golden wedding anniversary on May the 5th. Trouble was, that was also the day of our brother-in-law's (Mrs's sister's husband) funeral. So, we did eat out but not quite as we planned! Incidentally our 8th anniversary was spent in maternity and we came back with our third son. A good anniversary present :-)

Anyroads. To make up for it I had booked an evening away at the seaside yesterday. We were going to set off about 11. Have lunch on the way. A romantic meal for two in the evening and stop overnight in a very well rated guest house in Grange over Sands. But it was not to be.

Packed and ready, I started to cough up blood :-( Lots of it too. So, straight to A&E we went. They were very busy but I was seen to quickly and efficiently. In and out, including blood tests and x-rays, even with dozens of people waiting, in 5 hours. While waiting I realised that the blood did seem to be coming from above rather than below. The doctor confirmed it was from behind my nose somewhere and joked that my blood results and x rays were very boring :-)

One of my daughters looked up what it may be and it does look like it may have been a posterior nose bleed. More common in older people and those with high blood pressure, which I am inclined toward. I have also been using a steroid nasal spray to help combat the tree pollen hay-fever and that can cause the blood vessels to thin.

Fine now I'm glad to say and trip to the lakes Coast rebooked for next week. Fingers crossed!

Congratulations on the golden wedding. Not so much on the rest of your experiences!

We are comparatively newlyweds. A mere 45 years in September.

47 years for us come December, two Daves!

Join the nosebleed club, Dave... :-(

We had a lovely short break in Bath booked a couple of weeks ago - then three days before going I developed cellulitis and was quite unwell. I refused to cancel the trip, at which Mrs Steve went blazing mad at me, but we carried on and went and had a great time, even though I was only running on three-quarters. Fortune favours the brave!

Ours coming up in September: daughter has already booked us up for a family weekend away in Elie, Fife. Lovely place, but we were also there for my 70th birthday, staying in a holiday flat: the proprietor had decided to pressurise the central heating boiler, but overdid it a bit. It was actually in a cupboard in our bedroom, and sprang a leak, which we were alerted to by ominous clanking noises from the cupboard, followed by water everywhere! We managed to switch everything off, including the main stopcock to the property, so had no water supply or heat all weekend! Hoping for no repetition of that this September, but I think we might be staying elsewhere!

Saw the doc yesterday and got a very mixed consultation. He supplied me with blood pressure medication, which has brought it down instantly. However, after the A&E doc telling me my chest x-ray was clear, my own doc saw some lung damage. He has guessed at a chect infection and provided antibiotics so, fingers crossed, it will go in a few days. Still coughing a bit of blood but not much and it still feels high up to me. Still going away next week come what may! I and everyone around me is suffering from coughs and sore throats as well so a virus could be the cause. Not Covid as I have checked :-)

I've had my worst winter ever. Can't include covid in that since that happened last July, but since September I've had four bouts of cellulitis, one of which reduced my kidney function to almost zilch, a bout of bronchitis that lasted nearly two months and more colds and coughs than I had in the previous ten years put together. One visit to A&E with a wait of six and a half hours when my kidneys weren't working, four follow-up visits of at least four hours each, four courses of max antibiotics with the added bonus of intravenous ones on top, and banned for life from taking the only painkiller that worked for me.

This is not an attempt at one-downmanship, Dave, and you wouldn't believe how goddamn cheerful I still am! The only way to be. As long as I can walk, talk, breathe, argue, eat, drink (esp.) and sleep (and perform other functions that needn't be mentioned!), I'll soldier on!

I went to see the doc. He said, the trouble with you, Mr Shaw, is that you've got hypochondria. I said, well I might as well have that - I've got everything else... :-)

We had a great little break in Bath even when I was struggling a bit, and we've got a holiday in Sicily and another in AndalucĂa planned for this year. Hurray!

We made it - 3rd time lucky :-) Had a lovely time just mooching round Grange and a great meal in the pub. Called in Kirkby Lonsdale on the way home and made a mental note to stay there one night to spend time at the brewery. Lovely place with great beer and food :-)

August will be our 40th anniversary which is not golden but is perhaps Tungston. I also had a doc appointment Tuesday and to my complaint, I was given Gabapentin and Flowmax. My lower back can do what it is asked to do but it yells at me. I haven't heard of a good chiropractor but I will look.

40th is Ruby if I remember rightly.

We have a great physiotherapist in our village who has sorted out most of my skelto-muscular problems but not all. Mrs G went to a chiropractor where we used to live and they sorted out her back problems but it didn't last long.

The way chiropractors can rip old scar tissue is positively medieval, it feels like the torture rack. It restores full free motion so it's worth it.
Is the 60th anniversary Platinum? The 70th must be Ununpentium.

Nah, platinum is 70. Our late Queen had her platinum jubilee last year. I think 69 may be diamond
