That is a truly bizarre but probably not unexpected turn of events. Prigozhin has been complaining for months about how his troops have been cannon fodder (even if he also treats them that way and finds them in the most desperate or incarcerated conditions - an army "no one will miss if they're gone."     If so, DtG, that's seriously weird: saving face by shooting yourself in the foot (or the arse) seems more pyrrhic than somewhat.

    No one said the attempt to annex Ukraine last year was smart - so trying to back out by faking a war on your own territory - it's equally stupid. Putin does seem to be off of his rocker, not accepting advice from anyone.

    Another war of Generals will not end well. The fog of war in Russia will be a war of fog. Media control there is nearly complete.
    Prigozhin began his career with one hot dog stand that became many and finally a chain of restaurants where he met Putin. How the rest of this unlikely story will end is anybody's guess.

    It certainly is an interesting development. I predict that either Prigozhin or Putin will be dead in a week. All of this bodes well for Ukraine, because Russia is fucked up.

    Ukraine will be worried that Wagner forces could now be in striking distance of Kyiv. Hopefully Zelensky will have allowed for this ploy and deployed some defences to the North.

    I don't think we in the West will find out what's happened in any sort of a hurry. It's possible it'll come out in a year or few, but methinks only those in the three-letter agencies will ever know for certain, and quite possibly not even them.

    *Sigh* .... BBC News 24 have elected this as Bone of the Week, so they'll be savaging it *at* *great* *length* until something else comes along. The clue's in the name (Rolling News will inevitably have the juggernaut nature), but the Beeb seems to be worse than most nowadays. At least the Radio Four news bulletins have escaped the delusion that more of the same thing is better. End of rant.

    Prigozhin is in Belarus probably sporting a wig and fake beard.
    His troops will be divided up between Russian troops and the Wagner group. Whatever deal he made with Putin will be like a Hitler treaty.
    Shortlived.

    Today on the radio news they were discussing Prigozhin being separated from his Wagner forces, so apparently he isn't just headed out of Russia, he's out of a job that he created. And the commentator also made that remark that he should avoid going near windows in his new apartment.

    An interesting speculative analysis:

    Vladimir Putin faced an unprecedented challenge to his authority. What could his eventual end look like?

    My take on it is that there will be another Putinesque taking over - same shirt, different day.

    (Or maybe it should be spelled puttanesca? Like the pasta, with the interesting explanation of the reason it is called that. LOL)
