BS: 'say goodbye to hollywood' STRIKE

It's been a couple of months without late nite comedy TV and humor shows like Colbert and Bill Mahre but now with actors joining the writer strikes, the entire entertainment industry is in peril. Being entertained to death isn't good but by not having the pressure valve of comedy nationwide, we could be in danger. Instead it will be competition shows, Trump trials and 24 hour news.

What will take its place of Hollywood are reality shows and streaming European, Chinese and Russian movie studios. Part of the failed negotiations involves AI clones of actors and residuals. Many of the behind the scenes workers can not afford health insurance.
The only movie releases to my knowledge that are allowed to be screened are Oppenheimer and Barbie.

How long the strike will go on is not known and what will fill the void is uncertain.

Maybe they can recruit some scab chimps to write those reality show scripts.

The morning game shows now have special editions shown in prime time at nite like the Price is Right and Lets make a Deal.
The TV executives may be chimps.

That's a terrible and unjust indictment of chimpanzees.

Even "reality" shows, called "unscripted," have writers and actors.

The July 12 edition of Vanity Fair offers analysis:

Studios Allegedly Won’t End Strike Till Writers “Start Losing Their Apartments” (There is a paywall after 1 article a month.)
According to a recent Deadline report, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) is in the strike for the long haul—with a plan to let the Writers Guild of America (WGA) “bleed out” before resuming negotiations. “The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses,” one source told the trade.

The WGA is entering its 72nd day on the picket lines, striking against the AMPTP in hopes of negotiating a new contract with Hollywood studios. However, sources told Deadline that the AMPTP, led by Carol Lombardini, is not interested in negotiating with the scribes anytime soon. “I think we’re in for a long strike,” said one industry veteran with insight into the studios’ perspective.

and further down
Since the writers went on strike May 2, studios and streamers such as Warner Bros. Discovery, Apple, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, and Paramount have received positive feedback from Wall Street in their quest to, as one studio exec told Deadline, “break the WGA.” According to the report, the studios and streamers have been prepared for the long haul since the very beginning. “It’s been agreed to for months, even before the WGA went out,” one executive said. “Nobody wanted a strike, but everybody knew this was make or break.”

The Deadline report came approximately 30 hours before the actors union, SAG-AFTRA, is set to announce whether it will join the WGA in a strike against the AMPTP or reach a deal. Regardless of whether SAG-AFTRA strikes a deal with the AMPTP, the studios have no intention of coming back to the table with the WGA until the fall, a top-tier producer told Deadline: “Not Halloween precisely, but late October, for sure, is the intention.”

With the actors out also, it puts more pressure on the studios to act prudently. But with super rich studio heads who can afford to hold out for the long haul, is shame enough to get them to negotiate?

And the last bit from that article:
“The studios and streamers feel they would be in a position to dictate most of the terms of any possible deal.” An insider called the strategy “a cruel but necessary evil.”

The report has stoked an outcry from guild members and nonmembers alike; for the record, though, some writers and onlookers suspect the bravado Deadline quotes is more of a negotiation tactic than genuine malice. “They’re ramping up propaganda,” tweeted screenwriter Joe Russo. “What an inept attempt to scare WGA members into turning on each other,” agreed journalist and author Mark Harris. Director and story artist Cole Harrington put it more bluntly: “It’s a threat. This is calculated. The AMPTP is trying to scare folks into folding because THEY’RE scared of unions.”

This is when brother-in-laws and amateurs with a glimmer of ideas will emerge, especially when they were never union members. Damn scabs.

Sadly, the UserFriendly website has disappeared, or I'd have been able to post the link. (For the record, UserFriendly was that of which Dilbert is the dark side.) So, from memory ....

The service provider has suffered a takeover. AJ, the creative at the ISP, is discussing with some corporate why he is being Let Go:

"We've found someone cheaper to replace you."
"Who?"
"The new managing-director's grandson."
".... Ah: Nephew Art. I'll send you my freelance rates in a couple of weeks."

My middle name is Art. Throughout history, the name Arthur has been associated with a range of different symbols and meanings depending on the culture and context in which it was used. In Celtic mythology, for instance, the name was linked to the bear Atos and was seen as a symbol of strength, courage, and wisdom. Some bears are smarter than your average bear. Owls only look smart.

How the actors and writers strike affects many non-union industry employees

Atlanta's growing film industry is full of non-union workers since Georgia is not a union-friendly state. Now those workers are scrambling as the writers and actors strike continues.

They're adjacent to the strike, and if all goes well may be included in the benefits. Did you read it? They are doing other jobs, unrelated.
