Burl Ives LP: A Collection of Songs from Burl Ives

i HAVE STILL got a memory of having an LP of Burl Ives singing songs of Irish type (just guitar accompanyment) played for me, in an audio booth at HMV Oxford Circus, in London back in the mid-sixties. Does anyone know if a CD was ever re-issued ?

My son has an album of 78s that Burl Ives gave to my Dad when Dad backed him up on an ancient CBC program. That "album" was my introduction to fok music.

Say, Kendall, what's the name of the LP? Maybe we can help Richard search for it. One place to look for information about the contents of the album would be Folk Music: An Index of Recorded Sources (click).

To paraphrase Lee J. Cobb to Dennis Weaver
in an episode of McCLoud

First you put the record on the TURNTABLE,
Then you connect the TURNTABLE LINE OUT
to the LINE IN of the Computer Sound Card.
Then you RECORD WAVEs of the LP songs
and TRANSFER the WAVes to a CD.
Finally! Make copies of CD
Send a copy to MAX, DICK, JOE and GENE!

Bill D: Would you mind posting the songs that are on the LP? I'd appreciate it if it's not too lengthy.

Thanks, BillD, I'll try there. I have several Burl Ives LPs and most of his CDs but none that features only Irish tunes.

Many thanks all, the good advice from Denis Weaver presupposes too much for me though, with my 60s turntable and only a memory of a record. Glad to have my memory vindicated though. Now I wonder how I can get my hands on a decent copy of the LP??

this page says Decca no longer exists as an independant company, but has been bought a couple of times since 1980....it is now used as a label for classics and Broadway scores, so it's not clear who actually has the rights to the album...

If you Google Burl Ives LPs, I think you will find a Burl Ives website. I know there used to be one, maybe a year and a half ago. I expect it's still there.

I just Googled, as I suggested in the previous post. I don't find the site I remember, with his name, but there's LOTS of other sites that feature his recordings.

Ninety-nine? No song by that name. Could you mean "The Devil's Nine Questions"? That is on "The Wayfaring Stranger"

It is hard to search 'everywhere' if you don't know the song.
