BS: Anarchy Rules!!!

Subject: Anarchy Rules!!!
From: GUEST

This place was so much more fun when (like the Internet) it was de-regulated.

Because of a small bunch of pompous tight-asses who checked their collective senses of humor at the door, Max has had to institute some measures so that katlaughing, sorcha, and all her fellow bleeding hearts can once again dominate the heart and soul of Mudcat without extraneous evil forces at work, and continue on unfettered extolling the virtues of anything, as long as it's not musical.

I personally was not involved in all the anonymous postings running rampant the other evening, but I must say that I have never had as much fun or been entertained online, as I was the other evening. I even laughed out loud quite a few times, which I never ever do when surfing.

I don't know what was funnier -the anonymous postings of various individuals claiming to be other ''legit'' members, or the reactions of the ''legit'' members to the ''fraudulent''postings........but I laughed till I cried.

I am also quite intrigued by the level of familiarity exhibited by Sorcha to other members of this community, given the very short time ''Sorcha'' has been on this forum.

Duh.........here's a theory. Sorcha = katlaughing No one else picked up on this yet?

In any event, if those of you would like to continue having fun here, and wish to do so with total anonymity and free of having your permanent IP address tracked, go here first...and type in the URL of Mudcat in the box up top.

Isn't the title of this thread a bit of an oxymoron? As I would suggest is the author of the thread.

Can we please not rise to the bait and let this thread die?

Actually I must also confess to being amused. I didn't join in because I could see it bothered some but I thought it funny. The resultant paranoia I find strange and hysterical in some ways. Similar to two months ago when nobody could post anonymously without several people thinking it had to be gargoyle and therefore responding with unnecessary rudeness.

Quite frankly, the entire idea that not being able to use someone else's name is a huge conspiracy to prevent you from having a good time is just silly. It simply keeps people from messing with others' identities. I think you're overreacting far more than any of the people who had their names taken.

GUEST, Saint Nick, _gargoyle, et. al--if you so want to get back to the interesting music threads instead of healing threads, why do you folks keep clogging up the forum with these boring threads where we just end up going around and around in circles! Let's talk about music for a change! Show us you're here for more than just troublemaking--that you actually care about music on this site--that's why this whole thing started in the first place isn't it?

I don't really think we are doing anybody any harm safely tucked away in here, Mbo. This is only a bit of fun, it's better than messing up somebody else's threads. Must we talk about music ALL the time. I spend my days and nights playing the stuff. Sometimes I like to open up to something else in the company of others who appreciate both good music and other diversions. After all aren't musicians anarchistic by definition?

No, definitely not "musician = anarchist"

Well... I was gonna leave this alone, but I went to proxy.com or what ever that site was called and I let it run the check on my system... and ya know what... If yer worried about that info being available to folks, then you are way too paranoid to be in cyberspace! The only people who are worried about having TOTAL anonymity are the poeple who are up to no good, or are too uptight to admit that they visit porn or warez sites...

Please... with child abuse and homelessness, don't we have enough to worry about, without inventing problems?

Music of course is all subject to some kind of structure. So is the one-time anarchist commune which I am still associated with after 20-some years--because it has developed a modest bit of structure that accommodates its members. Just like Mudcat.

Mudcat is not a "virtual" community. It is a real community based on a real sharing of interests, and the fact that we are in physically disparate locations and not looking into each other's eyes as we speak, requires that we have a high degree of trust of each other. Because we get to know each other on the basis of our postings, which are and should be far more than just dry information-sharing in regards to the music which brought us all here. Starts with knowing with whom you are speaking. Most of us aren't just frolicking in cyberspace indulging in the dubious pleasures of anonymity and deceit. A masquerade ball might be fun, but only if one enters it voluntarily.

The way I see it, deceiving others by posing as another real person is far more destructive to the Cat than just saying something nasty, which we know who is saying it. And that pisses me off. Almost as much (theoretically more, but I like kat and despise people exercising their own prejudices by attacking my friends) as the personal attacks directed at kat and others.

I agree with you Willie-O. But I agree with Shambles that people who love the Mudcat should get off this site and let it die, or leave it to those who don't, like the Invisible Presence who started it.

Actually I think "Th0omas Covenant" up there was right: "I don't really think we are doing anybody any harm safely tucked away in here, Mbo. This is only a bit of fun, it's better than messing up somebody else's threads."

Much, much better. Much, much better.

I dislike being placed in an either/or split. Too many of the threads, musical and non-musical, these days have acquired an acrimonius tinge:people are posting in terms of either/or, instead of pooling knowledge. This was beginning before the false posting two nights ago. I think that the people on Mudcat can be and are more complicated than that. I can see the hurt and distrust in false posting, I can also see the humour in the way it was done here. I can see the hurt in what Gargoyle says but I can also see the humour in some of his postings. I can see the value and warmth of a lot of what katlaughing posts but I can also see paranoia and an unwillingness to compromise which leads her into unwise retaliation and lashing back. I do not condone the taking on of a false identity to sow confusion and distrust also I do not support any move to suppress humour or to make it seem that appreciating humour means that you are somehow deficient of "decent' qualities.

Sophoclesse, this place has got dafter and dafter in terms of the BS arguements in the short time I have been in Mudcat and things have got more and more bitter each time and there have also been outbreaks of paranoia and I suppose that it was almost enivetable that somebody would pretend to be someone else at some point in the whole business. My sense of humour does not run to people impersonating others but either way, it has happened, some action has been taken to make that a lot more diffuclt in the future and the matter is effectively over.

I think that the only way that Mudcat is going to return to some form of normality is we forget what has happened and just go back to discussing the subjects that we all enjoy and leave this whole buisness get burried in the past.
