22 Jan 00 - 06:17 AM (#166595) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: mary from the mountains? From: GUEST,Iain Greig Thanks for the response Martin. I think the song could be semi contemporary. It's tempo is waltz time amd I heard it some time back on a sean wilson compilation with just one verse and a chorus, and unfortunately cannot remember more than a snatch of it. P.S. apologies for posting my request twice, my computer lied to me and said the connection timed out when i first posted my request. |

Seven years of happines and pain For I loved a lady from the mountains Though I knew we'd never meet again CHORUS Golden dreams are all I have to cling to ...................................? I have no idea of who wrote it or when. The lyrics remind me of Percy French type material. |

Seven years I spent in Galway City Seven years of happiness and pain For I loved a lady from the mountains Now I know we'll never meet again She had eyes like pearls from the ocean And she moved as graceful as a fawn But she loved her hills of Connemara And her heart was anchored on Ben Bawn Golden dreams are all I have to cling to Golden memories of Galway Bay Where I met sweet Mary from the mountains And she stole my foolish heart away Often times when shades of night were falling Hand in hand we'd wander through Salthill Now she's gone and left me for her homeland But in dreams I picture Mary still I often hear her gentle whisper In the breezes blowing from the sea But I know it's just imagination For I know she never thinks of me. Golden dreams are all I have to cling to Golden memories of Galway Bay Where I met sweet Mary from the mountains And she stole my foolish heart away The above--no author cited--is beautiful and begs for a melody. I'd dearly love to find out who wrote it and get permission to sing it. |

However, I can't get a sound file to make sure that it is the right song. Perhaps this will twig with someone who has his album. Golden Dreams |

But in dreams I picture Mary's still I often hear its gentle whisper In the breezes blowing from the sea promises of just a 'snifter' of poteen fresh made for me. See the vapours gently rising Smell the woodsmoke, feel the thrill Of those pleasures most surprising That we get at Mary's still. It's strange how my mind wanders at times! :) Nigel |
