folk music of Rwanda

Traditional music Also famous were the Amasimbi n'amakombe and Irindiro dance troupes. The ikinimba is perhaps the most revered musical tradition in Rwanda. It is a dance that tells the stories of Rwandan heroes and kings, accompanied by instruments like ngoma, ikembe, iningiri, umuduri and inanga. Any examples on you tube of their different musics?

thanks, Joe, a couple of clips reminded me of gamelan music, and a couple of others of Gaelic unaccompanied singing

Well done Dick for starting this thread and well done Joe for the leg work.
It sounds very interesting but my schoolboy French is insuffient for the task.
The recordings are almost 20 years old and I do wonder how Topic got involved - hopefully more info to come.

I have a Rwandan friend here in California. He's a Catholic priest, and he came here after spending five years in prison. He's a wonderful person, and a good singer. Good drummer, too. Because of him, I have a soft spot in my heart for Rwanda and Rwandan music.
