Lyr Req: Help with words - Nightly White Statins

Subject: Lyr Req: Help
From: GUEST,me

I heard a guy in Whitby singing a song to the tune of the Moody Blues song nights in white satin, about having to take white statins because of a heart problem, does anyone know the lyrics?

Sadly not...but here is a consolation prize....I wrote this a few years ago

Nightly White Statins
(To the tune of Nights in white satin.)

Nightly white statins,
Keep cholesterol down.
Got this prescription,
From the doctor in town.

Sickness overtakes me,
And headaches abound.
Makes me so grumpy,
No-one wants me around around.

(Chorus)
And I hate them,
Yes I hate them, Oh how I hate them.

Gazing at people,
Wandering around.
Wondering who takes them,
And if it makes their heart pound.

Some try to tell me,
They’re perfectly fine.
If that’s a reality.
Then why aren’t mine?

(Chorus)
And I hate them,
Yes I hate them, Oh how I hate them. Oh how I haaatttte them….Oh how I haaatttte them………………………………………………..

Michael whilst you can write a parody to Knights in White Satin, the original copyright stays with the writer of the original work. The tune remains their copyright, and if you use their original words, you cannot legally claim any part of those words as your exclusive copyright. You are adapting a copyright work, and have to give main credit to Justin Hayward and his publishers, not yourself.

I have made no claim on the music... just the words......with reference to a tune.

You might get away with that as fair parody use, as looking at it now, not much is lyrically used . Though the original is quoted.. But the tune you set it to is definitely (C) and you couldn't use it for commercial purposes without publishing permission.

Incidentally I got Alan Merrill shortly before her died, to register the song title 'I Love Sausage Rolls' in the UK, as his 'I Love Rock n' roll was being parodied, and was used for a Christmas Number 1 by Ladbaby. So the PRS/MCPS collect on behalf of his publishers, irrespective of the writing of parody words, due to the use of the music, hooks, and obvious lyrical structure. Though some Internet downloads give a split credit, which was presumably arranged elsewhere. Anyway, I digress.. I don't think there's much danger of competing with Hayward.. it's a piece of crud.

GUEST -

I imagine "Weird Al" and "Dr Demento" have had you counting flowers (aka lawsuits) on the wall.

One of my best old, "Nero Burning ROM" (Napster) days was "Chilling Effects". The more you try to squash knowledge ... the more it oozes through your fingers.

The Pandora has been out of the box for 30 years.

Sincerely,

Tyke,

If you're brave enough to venture on to Facebook there's a fairly busy Whitby Folk Week UK Community Group page that might help you. (not just folk week)

Worth going back to Whitby, especially during folk week. I will be crowded this year as it's also Regatta

Or as the very funny but sadly 'late' Mike Mann form Brighton had it...'Satin white 'Nighties'.
Mike was an occasional and very welcome guest when we had the 'Coppersongs Folk Club' back in the 1980's...

Michael, as it happens, those statins are in place to treat a perceived problem (serum cholesterol in relation to heart disease). Turns out the science says no. (I'm off of mine as of this month because of symptoms.)
It's a knotty problem. Good luck (with the song and the health!)

Thank you Still R S. Hope your health improves too. I guess we are at an age where health problems come to us which we have no control over. Just keep plodding on and make the best of our changed lives.

There are many more medical topics you can address with parodies or original compositions. Look at it as a opportunity!
